House of 1833. What a DELIGHT! From the unique interior to the beautifully appointed rooms to the gourmet 3 course breakfast. The attention to detail is beyond exceptional. The stately 1833 Greek Revival mansion is extraordinary. It's everything you expect from an 1833 home, gorgeous wide-plank flooring that creaks from a well-worn past. An exquisite hand-painted staircase mural more than 100 years ago completes your entry. The stories of the home are told from the colorful owner Evan Nickles. He speaks as an historian, from his family's colorful past, to present, Evan gives life to every piece of furniture and oddity. Mr. Nickles is a delightful gentleman, a wonderful storyteller, and an extraordinary cook, from his apron to his chefs hat. The home is a complete story, it's interior carefully and lovingly curated. If you love history, uniqueness and a travel back in time, then please stay at the House of 1833. Don't expect perfection, expect an experience.

The owner is extremely welcoming and very kind but the place is in very poor condition. It is massively cluttered and does not appear to have been cleaned properly for a long time . It needs a complete renovation and a proper clean. Breakfast takes a long time could be much easier and better .

Those who write poor reviews on this property make me wonder what they are looking from life??!! I just love the laid back, easy approach to life that Evan has…..after having been through so much. Our veranda room was massive, so clean and fresh with extra little touches from a caring host that made it feel very special. Breakfast was unbelievable!! Never ever have I experienced such personal effort put into a meal with an aim to please. We had intended moving on after one night stay but realising we couldn’t be happier anywhere other than House of 1833 we booked in an extra night. Keep doing what you’re doing Evan!! You’re an amazing man. Hope to return some day

The lodging is comfortable and attractive. The grounds are lovely and have a lot to offer. The decorations are fascinating. The host is interesting, personable and very quirky. He is also very flexible and accommodating and helpful and knowledgeable. But what made our stay truly memorable was the incredibly high quality of the breakfast. The only downside is that you are a few miles from the restaurants and attractions of Mystic, so if convenience is your main concern, you may want to select one of the many options downtown. But this place is very quiet and peaceful and, as I said, very interesting. And it is a gorgeous, historical building and property.

We had a simply lovely stay at this eclectic but delightful B & B. Evan was gracious and a great chef. We loved our Harvest homemade breakfast of homemade cinnamon rolls, fried potatoes, pumpkin waffles with scrumptious apple topping. Yummy. The bed was so very comfy and outstanding antique decor. All current comforts mixed with heritage of this lovely home.

This was a really special stop on our New England road trip. We met Evan on arrival and he showed us around the house and our room. There is so much history and things to see in this place. Our room was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. The jacuzzi bath in the bedroom was a welcome extra we hadn't expected and we enjoyed the chocolates and sherry that was in our room. It is located a little to far out of town to walk for an evening meal, but only a few minutes by Uber. Last but not least was our 'Breakfast Adventure' as Evan called it. We had a lovely three course breakfast which Evan prepared and cooked for us. It really was a very pleasant stay and we would love to return one day.

A truly unique & rare experience; with some nice twists (amazing breakfasts & jacuzzi hot tub in room). It’s like time travel back in history, with modern additions. Evan is a remarkably hospitable host! Highly recommend, without any reservation 👍🏼

The House of 1833 exemplifies what makes a B&B special: a friendly host who cares deeply for his guests and his property, historical and beautiful decor, lovely gardens, and excellent food. It's close enough to "downtown" Mystic to be very convenient, but far enough that it is quiet and relaxing. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

While definitely a bit quirky, the inn is a treasure trove of objects and antiques. Evan is an amazing host and we thorough enjoyed our stay. We were only there for one night, but the pool is lovely and Evan even recommended a band to see after dinner which was fun. We had the most amazing breakfast the following morning, met some delightful people and you can tell he puts a lot of effort into the inn. So much more fun than your "regular" hotel room. Would definitely return!
