The Swan Inn

What a disappointment - meal was average and no hot drinks served after a meal. Average pub food and not what was expected. Expected better and the management needs to look at themselves and consider whether they are qualified to run an Inn. Went there with friends as we had a concert at the Exchange and had been doing this for a number of years and prior had enjoyable meals and the dining experience was exceptional. This has all gone and the (new) management need to get themselves sorted out before it’s too late. We will not be returning and a number of other people have made the same comments.

Well situated in the middle of town. Room very clean and comfortable. At the front but not disturbed by any noise. This is a pub with rooms rather than a hotel. On checking in, I was given a key to the back door as when I got back they would be closed by 6. I hadn’t realised this as I had planned to eat I. The pub later. To get to the back door, you had to go through the dark car park with an even surface. Security light came on when within 4ft. As a woman on my own it was very scary. In the morning check out was 10. The cleaner of the pub told me to just leave the key on the side. It wasn’t a very personal service which at the night rate I was expecting more. But if you are looking for a no frills no contact room, it fits the bill.

Lovely stay at the Swan Inn. Comfortable bed, nice shower and friendly hosts. Would highly recommend. Unfortunately they didn’t have a chef which was disappointing but no fault of the hosts who I’m sure have tried very hard to employ one.

We were appalled at the way we were treated at the Swan Inn, our first visit was lovely, Geoff was a very good host and knew that we recently reconnected with an elderly family member who lives locally and that we would be regular visitors to the Swan (every 6 weeks or so) we spent a lot of money as we like to have breakfast and evening meal there and also the bar. Upon this second visit, we arrived at about 3.30pm we were greeted by Phore who did nothing short of bully us into paying straight away for our room, just as we had paid, she promptly told us that they had no chef and could we please hurry up booking breakfast for the following morning  as the bar is closing in a minute. We had travelled a long way and this was NOT the attitude and impolite words we wanted to hear. Phore wouldn't stop complaining about her boss to other guests in the bar and we felt quite ill at ease. The next morning we had to cut our stay short as we had to return home for an emergency. My husband went to tell reception in hope we may get some sort of refund for the second night as we were in fact duped into thinking they had a chef and all the other things we had liked about our first stay. But to no avail, not a good will gesture, nothing!!!!! We spent a lot of money and would have spent regular amounts when we visit my Aunt.  My husband tried to ring Geoff a couple of times as we think he knew nothing of what had happened and how we were treated as soon as we set foot in his door. You do NOT treat regular visitors like this and you should warn people that the bar and the chef were not available before they pay for their stay!!! Disgusting way to run a business! 

We stayed on Saturday 02/04/22 after attending an event at the Exchange The staff were very helpful, kept updated us on the room availability and had told us that live music would be taking place that evening. The room was excellent and we were made to feel welcome during our stay.
