We stayed in a Luxury Room. First the good stuff, the room was to die for, it had absolutely everything with lots of lovely touches including a jar of homemade biscotti, we had a little verandah also to sit outside of the room. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, lovely atmosphere and really good food. There were beautiful gardens with a swimming pool area & koi carp in the ornamental ponds. There was a secure car park for those who are self driving and our car was cleaned for when we left. Now sadly the negative stuff, we had read that we would be offered tea & scones on arrival and we were really looking forward to this quaint experience. We were indeed offered tea or coffee but also a beer or a glass of wine so we opted for the beer (as you do!) We didn't get the scones unfortunately and the two glasses of beer were on the bill at check out! The breakfast was absolutely huge and a bit OTT in our opinion, I felt very guilty not eating it all. We found the food and especially the drink prices very expensive at twice the price of our Cape Town hotel, which was very disappounting.

Upon arriving at the Schoone Oordt, you are welcomed by friendly professional staff who cannot go far enough to ensure your stay spectacular. My wife and I had the most amazing stay at this beautiful venue in swellendam. I cannot recommend this venue any higher, for anybody passing down through South Africa / garden route / Cape Town area. You must visit this venue, you will be amazed. Thank you very much to all the team at Schoone Oordt, the next time we are in South Africa, we will be staying again but for longer.

Exceptional boutique experience. Accommodation, service, dining all top notch. This was the third location in our trip to SA. As a tired old business traveller I’ve had a guts worth of business hotels and was determined to mix things up on this progress through the rainbow nation. Following an exhilarating drive from Stellenbosch we were warmly welcomed and refreshed. We enjoyed a magnificent dinner, cocktails and excellent wine. The thing that stood out the most though was the true warmth of all the team and the host. Who needs chain hotels when such delights can be found, not me.

What an absolutely beautiful place to stay on our drive down the garden route… Alison and Richard have created the most incredible guest house which we were so lucky to have called home for 1 night!! The staff, the surroundings, the service…. THE FOOD!!! I cannot recommend Schoone Oordt highly enough and hope we’ll be able to return one day! Thank you thank you thank you for having us ❤️

This is a beautifully renovated house in Swellendam, with well manicured gardens and a small pool with sun loungers. All the staff were lovely and the food was great. One day we asked for a picnic basket as we were going for a hike in Bontebok NP and they provided a fantastic array of food for us. Be aware that breakfast is a three course meal and, whilst delicious, will leave you stuffed! There was only a small issue with the room that means they didn’t receive 5 stars and that is that the shower looked great but was unfortunately just a very underwhelming dribble. We had a negroni one night but it was not great - no ice was used, no orange, and it felt a little slap dash in approach when the rest of our experience was excellent.

We have just had a fabulous luxury overnight stay at this beautiful country house hotel. Staff and owners are so friendly and welcoming, they can’t do enough for you. The accommodation is spacious, tastefully designed and extremely comfortable and the food is something else! Would highly recommend to everyone to stop off on your garden route journey at Schoone Oordt in Swellendam.

How wonderful our 3 night stay has been. The staff are delightful and cannot do enough for you. The food is delicious and well presented. Our room was tastefully decorated and set in a beautiful courtyard. Overall a sense of peace, serenity and calm runs throughout the hotel. The final touch our car has just been cleaned. Overall a simply delightful stay.
