I was about to give bad reviews due to some poor check-in experience, but everything after check in is so good that compensates this journey.
First, the check-in process that brings me with bad experience: it is self-served and there is no any staff. By rights you should receive an instruction email with check-in PIN in advance, which I heard from other guests. However, I didn’t receive anything but Trip’s confirmation letter and I was unable to check in. And my sim card in Japan is just an internet card unable to make phone calls, which means I have no way to contact the hotel directly. My partner and I were desperately locked out of the hotel in the evening, after 7h hiking, with no other available hotel in the mountain. After waiting for over 1 hour, other guests helped us to enter the admin room where there is an ipad to call the hotel (why not make it available to guests without checking in?), and with the help of Trip’s agency, we finally checked in successfully.
Then here is the staying experience: so good that makes me almost forgive the poor check-in experience. Each room is a spacious individual house and ours has a garden for BBQ. The food is also self-served, with the cooking stuffs and ingredients in the fridge. It was unexpected that you need to cook yourself (I don’t think it was listed on room info when I booked it), but it’s not bad that Wagyu, chicken, and vegetables are served. The rooms are big and cozy, and you can do the laundry after hiking.
Everything is good about the hotel itself, just be aware of the self-checkin process and make sure you get the instructions before that.

The hotel is right by the ancient road, you can see it from the mountain, it is very convenient. The self-service check-in is also silky, and you must read the operation instructions carefully. When entering the room, breakfast and dinner are already in the room. The dinner is packed in the lunch box. There are quite a lot of food varieties, that is, it is a bit cold. Breakfast is 4 kinds of bread + coffee. Drinks in the small refrigerator can be drunk for free. It is very convenient to have a washing machine and dryer, and wash the wet clothes on the mountain.

Before arriving at the hotel, I found that the transportation in the Kumano Hongu area was very inconvenient. I sent an email to the hotel, and they were able to reply within half a day. They also gave transportation suggestions and told us that they could drive to Ukegawa Station to pick us up, which saved us at least 45 minutes. distance. When we arrived at the hotel, the English introduction was very comprehensive, and they could send a car to take us to the bus station the next day, because the nearest bus station was not suitable for our travel time. The hotel provides a detailed bus timetable and a map for hiking from Prince Faxinmen to the palace. The meals and hot springs are typical Japanese style, and I am very satisfied. If the child's stuffed toys are left at the hotel after leaving, the hotel will contact us and they will send them to the next hotel. Really good service, highly recommended. Amazing service from the moment we arrived to the date of our departure. Staff is very attentive. Food is amazing and presented well. Location is serene and a great change from the big cities. Rooms are perfect and just the type of Japanese village rooms and decor we were hoping for.

This is the first time I tried this homestay similar to a youth hostel. Still quite recommended. Everything is better than expected, the environment is comfortable and quiet. In short, it was a surprise. Will choose to stay in the future.

If you need to send 🧳luggage, you can also make an appointment. It can be sent on the same day. It is 4500 yen to the Hongu area (Yunomine Onsen). Only cash payment is accepted. 711 at the JR station can also be sent, which will be cheaper, but it needs to be sent one day in advance. The disadvantage is that there is no public bath, but as a starting point, it is not so tiring. It doesn’t affect it too much. Secondly, although the straight-line distance to the station is very close, it is still a bit roundabout to actually walk to the JR station.

YYouxunWe took the Ryujin Bus and arrived at Kamimota. It was not yet check-in time, but the hotel lady was already waiting at the door. Serve warm tea, introduce the hot spring time, ask about meal time, and carefully prepare for dinner in the room. After the meal, we made the bed and asked thoughtfully about the time for the next day's morning service and the time for the bus to leave. The whole process was considerate. GGuest UserThe room was very clean. The landlady was kind and could communicate in Chinese using a translation software. I ordered her breakfast for 800 yen and it was very comfortable. I didn’t know what to choose from the meal. I just ate what she made and I was very satisfied. This B&B can pick you up from the station. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can only walk there. When I left, she drove me to the station. I liked it very much! The bus runs twice a day, and it’s difficult to take a taxi. The pick-up and drop-off is very pleasant.
