Back here for the second time this year for an extended stay of 15 nights in December and 10 in January.Its so relaxing here and at the moment we are the only guests.Lovely Kayaking up and down the lagoon each night and then back for fresh fish for dinner.The garden is look lovely after all the rain and sat here now sipping tea and bird watching over the lagoon.Gayan the owner also has fishing rods so you can try and catch your own dinner.Great curry and rice for when you've eaten enough fish.

After two weeks of exploring history and nature in the interior of Sri Lanka we arrived at this small gem. We found it relaxed, very peaceful, distant from the hectics of the more touristy places, with just a handful of roomy and clean cabanas. Overlooking a lagoon it's not more than 5 minutes walk to a palm shaded ocean beach. Gayan is an attentive host who spoiled us with his excellent breakfasts (we ended up with having a mixture of western and srilankan :-), fabulous seafood for dinner and a smoothie to indulge on every day. It was our first stay, however our trip buddies returned here for a 3rd time already. We can only highly recommend.

We had a great time here with Gayan at coconut island.We booked for 1 night but we stayed 4 nights as we loved it so much.We really enjoyed Kayaking up the lagoon.We went early morning one day and early evening the next day.The evening seemed better but may be i was more awake. Gayan cooked us fresh fish with salad and rice and it was very good. Its a great place to chill out for a few days,it is well placed between Galle and Ella which is our next destination.

Our trip to Coconut Island was so smooth, because Gayan had organised us a taxi from Galle in the morning. We sat by the quiet lagoon and had a fresh juice. We were upgraded to a better room free of charge, what a wonderful surprise! Not mentioned much in previous reviews, so a great surprise to find there are Kayaks you can rent to see more of the lagoon. We took a double kayak out for a coupe of hours before dinner, lots of kingfishers and wading birds. Earlier in the day, Gayan had caught a huge fish and invited his family arpund, so we all ate together, bbq fish, rice, sambal. What a treat to have an authentic taste of Sri Lanka life! This small piece of paradise by the lagoon is a gem.

We were met at Beliata train station by Gayan, the owner, who came to collect us. It was lovely to be met by a huge smile and by the time we reached Coconut island we already had a lot of information about the area. What I loved most was sitting on our terrace looking at the beautiful view of the lagoon. Gayan is a great host and also a local fisherman, so fresh fish is always on the menu, whether home caught or from the local market. Marakolliya beach is only a few minutes walk and is a slice of heaven. Not safe enough to swim, but we did some long beach walks and if you are lucky, you can see turtles in Rekawa Beach Reserve, which you can walk alongside. I only stayed one night this time, but I will be back soon because I am lucky enough to be here for some months. Thanks Gayan, it's a perfect place and a perfect stopoff on the way to Ella, where I am going next!

Solo traveller and really enjoyed my stay in this beautiful location. Everyone very friendly and just a five minute walk to a beach with a wow factor. This is not my first stay at coconut Island and it just gets better every time.

I have not been back here since covid so i was really surprised to see how much work Gayan the owner has done.He has redone the breakfast area over the lagoon and made a new bar so you can sit by the lagoon and have a cool drink.This is such a wonderful place,so tranquil and quite a lot of birdlife and animals in the lagoon.It is easily the nice place in this part of Tangalle.Its very well priced and is really beautiful. For sure i will be back next year.
