The Punchbowl Inn

It is a while since I have been here but when I went I thoroughly enjoyed this pub. It has a good atmosphere and the food was good also. All in all a good pub. I went with a friend and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit the staff were friendly and the atmosphere good. It is definitely a place I would recommend and go back to. Anne walker

Ideal for a nights stopover en route to North Yorkshire, a pleasant young man in charge seemed to be doing so much on his own ,there was problem with heating which would not go off ,but thoughtfully room was issued with very efficient fan ,reasonably priced ,breakfast ok , if in area would stay again ,

I normally only write positive reviews, but there are exceptions. On the face of it I thought the Punch Bowl might be half decent, the car park was pretty full on arrival, but that is the end of the good signs. Inside the place looked abandoned, it took several minutes before any staff surfaced. And then they didn’t seem to understand my booking, which was pre-paid. Down to the comments : The rooms looked like it had not been updated since the 70’s, the bed was worn, and every spring could be felt. Worst night sleep in years. Breakfast was supposed to be served from 07:30, at 07:30 I tried to leave my room only to find I was locked in the building and could only leave into the outside space of the building. Finally released at about 08:00, I wandered into the breakfast room (bar) to find it as desolate as the previous evening. No sign of staff. When someone turned up, they were rather unfriendly and asked what I wanted for breakfast, quickly following it with a suggestion of eggs.!!! Nothing else offered. When I went to check out and leave some comments, guess what? Yup, no one about. This place has nothing appealing about it.

Spent a few day there last week and was disappointed overall. Rooms were my serviced so you have to ask for essentials. The mattress was so thin and uncomfortable I didn’t sleep well at all. The walls are so thin I could hear the conversation being had in the room next door. No blind at the bathroom window and the place just felt dirty. Breakfast was not nice with Scrambled Eggs served green/grey colour (far too over cooked) sausages were cheap and tasteless. I wouldn’t stay there again, it’s not worth the money.
