My letter to Choice Hotels: I am writing to your corporation to let you know what type of establishment your corporate name is attached to. I reserved this hotel online a couple of weeks before the date I wanted to stay. I thought it was a great value, good location and looked forward to our time there. The advertisement stated there was a fridge in the room as well as a pool. I am an insulin-dependent diabetic who needs to have my insulin refrigerated so this is an important feature for me. We went to the office and there was no one at the desk, so we waited a few moments and then a man appeared. I tried to show him my confirmation number and all he wanted was my id and credit card. He repeated that a couple of times. As we were checking in, his child (I’m assuming) kept talking to him and I felt very disrespected as here I am, a guest, trying to check in and the gentleman’s attention was elsewhere. Another thing I didn’t appreciate is when he told his child he was with a “customer”. Hmmm, I thought I was a guest, as no matter where else I have stayed (and I travel often) I have always been referred to as a guest. He asked me to sign the printout he created (I’m assuming this was part of the check-in process) but he didn’t provide a copy to me so that I can see what I was signing. I felt that was a little strange as well. He proceeded to tell us to “drive around back” to find our room. We did this and as we were walking down the hall to our assigned room we noticed a very musty smell. We also walked by a window which was overlooking the pool. I would NEVER have swam in that pool as I wasn’t sure if they properly cleaned or put the appropriate chlorine in it. Not one guest was in that area and for seating there were a couple plastic lawn chairs. I was not impressed! As we were walking down the hall, the floorboards underneath our feet creaked and felt very “springy” as though we were bouncing as we walked. We found our room and were EXTREMELY disappointed. It smelled of mold and was not clean. I knew I wasn’t going to sleep in that bed --- I would have rather slept in my car. I expected more for the $200 I paid! I’m not talking about amenities either – I mean just basic cleanliness and smell! I know “you get what you pay for” but my God. I would have said this was a $75 per night Super 8 rather than an EconoLodge. I just can’t believe your corporate name is associated with this hotel. I would be extremely embarrassed if my name was associate with it. As I stated, I wasn’t going to sleep in that room and there was no fridge provided for my insulin. My husband knew how upset I was so he took it upon himself to book a Hilton for the same amount of money so that I could have a place to stay where I would feel comfortable doing so. I’ve attached pictures so that you can see what your name is attached to. There were rotting boards under the door as we walked in. Is this safe? Maybe? The screen was broken and bugs were getting into the room. This is no
