Well this is quite a mixed review. We stayed here twice before many years ago and before the new investment/extension. Now it feels very different and busy. We stayed a week from December 29. In summary, the staff are lovely and helpful, cleanliness is good, rooms comfortable, food quality excellent. Superb wine list although the menu doesn't warrant this. Then comes the detail which brings us to the view this venue did not quite meet our expectations given the rating. I think the rating I've given is fair (we recognise some part may be due to the contract between the hotel and Crystal.) If there was a good category it would fit there rather than very good but it is better than average Friendly staff at reception. In fact all staff are extremely friendly and helpful. English seems to be spoken as the default language unless you are Norwegian. Stayed a week for a skiing/ cross country holiday. Standard Room booked which had a lovely, pleasing contemporary interior design, muted, complementary colours and comfortable. The shower room is compact, good towels and products. However the towel rail is linked to the "smart " heating system so if the room is up to temperature the rail does not heat. Thus, towels and swimwear do not dry fully. You can ask for dry towels at reception but that is not the point. I like warm towels after a shower and arguably the point of the towel rail. We only ever had the thermostat on at 20 max so unsure what the optimum temperature to make the rail work should be. That said we tried it at 23 degrees out of curiosity once to see if that made a difference. It didn't. Anyway. No problem with the room temperature. There is limited drawer space for two people, always a little disappointing as with a ski holiday there is an abundance of layers, outdoor clothing and then normal wear. We just used a suitcase as an extra drawer. Plenty of hooks plus a narrow wardrobe. Robes provided. Hairdryer is great. Long cable. Lots of power sockets so it could be used close to a mirror. Pool and sauna area were included although the floating saunas ( wear bathing costumes) are an extra cost. I thought the massage treatment prices reasonable. This area was frankly disappointing for us. Too small and limited, especially as it's 4 star. A sauna is in each of the changing rooms and again compact. The pool is not large and smells quite chlorinated. Restaurant is large and traditional wood. Reservations are required and we found all our evenings had been reserved for 5pm which is the default although changing the time was not a problem usually . It was frustrating having to negotiate a later time on a couple of occasions. The process took much longer than it should have. You can also eat at the other restaurants and can transfer your set meal value to the a la carte. We attempted this but on the evening we were given a table in the usual area outside the "raw and grill brasserie" and given the a la carte menu. We didn't see the point of t
