Likes The location is simply superb and truly feels like the heart of the Selva Yucateca. The property was clearly designed (and built) as a passion project with an incredible eye for detail and some seriously fun design quirks. Of particular note are the cenote-inspired pool area and the viewpoint, which enjoys incredible views over the top of the tree canopy - and although we couldn’t, we were told that when the trees are trimmed annually, it also provides views of The Temple of the Sun in Chichen-Itza. The waiting staff and the kitchen were excellent! The food was good quality and fairly priced. Thank you fellas for the efforts made! Dislikes Unfortunately it seems that a combination of lack of continued investment and possibly, lack of a strong general manager to guide current owners, the hotel and facilities are somewhat rough around the edges. Although clearly it would take a huge amount of investment to bring this stunning property to its former glory, smaller improvements such as replacing lightbulbs, fixing ceiling fans, repairing air-con units, replacing broken pontoons, and generally spending some time with the paint brush, would go a really long way to improving the guest experience. Despite the above, we feel that what we paid for our room already took these issues into account and felt quite fair. We would gladly pay double if the hotel was in a better state of repair.

After looking at the website, we thought why not. A jungle hotel near Chichen Itza would be great. We got our rental car and made the 2.5 hr drive from Cancun. We received an “upgrade” to our reservation from standard to royal. There was nothing Royal about the accommodations. We checked in after 11 pm. There were only shutters on the screened windows, the full size bed was short for a 5’4” person. My husband at 6’4” slept in a ball to avoid half his legs hanging off the bed. Needless to say, not pleased. Cold water, low flush toilet, past guest hair in shower drain. Gross! Free breakfast consisted of slices of fruit, basket of toast, butter, jam and lukewarm plain yogurt with granola. Anything else was extra charge. Even the bottles of water we had to pay for since they only offered coffee or tea. We checked out soon after and asked for refund of second night. We couldn’t stay another night. Hopefully we will get the money back. Headed back to Cancun and in comfort at another hotel. But if you are wanting a primitive jungle hotel with none of the amenities shown on the website, this could be your best vacation. For us, it was very disappointing.

Pretty awesome. Love the bungalow, cleanliness, friendliness of the staff, and an air conditioner working well. I residual enjoyed the jungle setting and all of the birds. This review isn't long enough blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Done

Very dirty, pools unusable. Toilets have no water. Shower cold. Air condition does not work. No glass or cups in the room. Reception Takes Note of the Complaints, but they do nothing. Breakfast inadequate. No Black Tea. I'll be glad when we leave again.

This Hotel is not as bad as some of the recent reviews say. Yes the buildings are a bit run down, but the setting is beautiful and peaceful and the restaurant is romantic. Our Standard King room had hot water, good a-c, a balcony and a comfortable bed.

This place has great potential, I can only assume the covid scamdemic took its toll here. Every part of this place is in need of repair and maintenance. The pools are cracking and falling apart. Poolside furnishings are rotting and dangerous. Our room 303 would lock but not secure. No TV, wifi, phone, refrigerator or anything in the room. We had to take chairs from the neighboring rooms balcony. The ceiling in the closet was moldy and rotted away from an old AC leak. I had to clean the showerhead so that it would work. The toilet seat was not even connected. We felt bad for the staff because you could tell they tried hard to do the best with what they had. This place has huge potential if someone takes it over and sinks some money into it. If not I am afraid it will not be around much longer.

I stayed at Hotel Okaan for two nights and absolutely loved every minute of my stay. I had a 3 day business trip in Cancun and knew I wanted to see Chichen Itza, and find some time to relax, at the end of those 3 days. I read a TON of reviews of other hotels in Cancun, Tulum and the Piste area outside Chichen Itza before settling on Hotel Okaan. I wanted a place to unplug and unwind and this location was perfect. My cabana was lovely and inviting. I slept well each night (the bed was firmer than I was expecting, but was still very comfortable.) The restaurant serves what I would describe as "Home Cooked" food. This isn't a 5 star restaurant with stunning menu items, however, it was still very good food and cocktails at fair prices when compared to where I stayed in Cancun (Canopy at La Isla, a Hilton Hotel). I had a relaxing massage and spent a lot of time in a hammock in the pool. I would choose to stay at Okaan if I come back to Mexico because it was by far the most peaceful place I stayed at during my entire trip. I fell asleep to the sounds of frogs and cicadas, and woke to the sound of birds each morning. I rented a car in Cancun and drove myself to the hotel, and to Chichen Itza. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Be forewarned, the wifi only functions in the office and the restaurant, so if you're planning on working during your visit this might not be the place for you. However, if you want to truly unplug and enjoy a relaxing time in the Yucatan, this is the best place.
