Baja House

Utterly devastated by this hotel's complete disregard for its guests. Having reserved and paid for our room well in advance, we were unable to contact the hotel before our arrival despite many attempts by text, telephone, and email all of which went without reply. We arrived on the day of our booking to find the premises shut, no one around, no notice of how to contact the proprietors, not even a sign to indicate it was a hotel. After waiting several hours (and being told by the restaurant nearby that we were not the first guests that day to be left stranded), we ended up having to take a (much more expensive) alternative hotel at the last minute. It was only the next day that the hotel got in touch (proving they had our number all along) to ask where we were - the real question being where THEY were. Since that time the hotel has been arguing with *******, from what we can gather, over which one owes us a refund. But we have yet to see a penny of our expense recovered. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. It has been more than two weeks that we have been waiting for a refund and I have nearly given up hope. In fairness to the owners, when we see our money returned I will post a follow-up here.

We booked for 3 nights here, and i’m sure this is a lovely hotel but we never found out as we could not gain access. We were told we would receive an entry code to get in but despite many, many attempts to contact the proprietors we didn’t hear a word from them. So, we couldn’t get in after waiting, calling, emailing etc and of course we booked into another hotel. The next day, after I left a grumpy review on *******, lo and behold I start to get text messages from the proprietor with access code and apologies but it was too late. ******* say the hotel doesn’t think they owe us a refund, and gave me their number (very funny joke) to speak to them about it so they have washed their hands of the whole thing. I haven’t had an experience like this before, and I’m disappointed with both the hotel and *******.

We were so excited to stay here only to arrive to a room where the air conditioner wouldn't turn on during an extremely hot day/night. Room was at 90+ degrees and you could not open windows as it was warm outside and very noisy, so you need windows shut with a/c. We moved beds into the other room we rented and made due. But, they wouldnt refund us just provide us a credit for future use which we don't live in the area. Also, we arrived at 7:30 pm and were not able to inform anyone of a/c issue as there is nobody to contact until 7 am. I would suggest having a way for guests from 7pm until morning to have a way to contact hotel if needed. Had they just refunded us for room we couldn't use, I would just suck up the rest but pretty pathetic. They said since it already processed they can't refund that night.

I'm writing this review to prevent others from having the experience I did. I am not one to write bad reviews, this is my first, but when management is completely unresponsive you have no other recourse. On a positive note the design of the hotel is lovely, and it is filled with interesting outwork. The first room we were put in was dark in tiny (we had to hop over our suitcase to get to the bathroom), and the receptionist was helpful in getting us into a different room. But everything else...the internet did not work, and so whenever we wanted to use it we had to go to a cafe or restaurant (where we never encountered any issues). Water pressure was great in the shower but there was rarely hot water. There was a club next door that blasted music till about midnight, (not the owner's fault, and not an issue if you come to Todos Santos to party, but a problem if you want to sleep.). The breakfast was pretty awful, which was hard to understand in a town so filled with amazing food. You are only provided with one small refillable bottle of drinking water. You can ask staff to refill it and they will, when they are there, but the kitchen is locked at night, so if you want water past 7 you did to go to the store. The biggest issue we had however was that the hotel was absolutely freezing at night. It got down into the low 50s, and in our room the large window did not completely shut. We were only provided one thin blanket. When I requested additional bedding staff stated that they did not have any, but would see what they could do. I asked again the following day and was told that there were no additional blankets and there was nothing they could do. I slept at night with sweats over my pajamas and m husbands dirty socks on my feet. After four days of cold showers, no sleep due to the cold and noise, and no internet we decided to leave. Staff was indifferent to our complaints, and again, I get that they have no control over the noise, but to not supply your guests with blankets was just beyond. We asked to cancel the remainder of our reservation and they stated they were unable to do so due to us having booked though ***********. This turned out to be untrue-booking agreed to refund their portion but first needed the hotel to agree. They refused, even at booking.com's request, and so we paid over $600 for our remaining four nights. I am still happy we left however, as we had a wonderful experience at the Todos Santos Inn, and the extra money was worth it to have working internet, hot water, a delicious breakfast, helpful staff, and most importantly a warm room with blankets.
