The Somerville

A luxury stay in five star boutique surroundings. Welcomed in the car park on arrival by Pete and shown into the spacious Meadfoot Suite with its luxury bedding. A fabulous choice at breakfast in a lovely dining space overlooking the mature gardens which framed the breakfast room beautifully. A lovely lounge which reflected the period of the hotel and a bar area to socialise. Pete is the perfect host with a story to tell. He wears his heart on his sleeve and has a fabulous sense of humour. He's a proud guy who understands hospitality and the fine details. As a guest, who doesn't want to be treated royally!!! At the Somerville you'll be looked after and helped in any way possible. You'll get a great insight into Torquay, and if it's your home away from home as it's for us, Pete will engage with you and build a great connection. We shared our second breakfast period with another couple who enjoyed the conversation about a wide range of subjects, especially Fawlty Towers and what we all expect to see from the window of a Torquay hotel. I could certainly recommend the Somerville. The bed and the breakfast are marvellous, the location is perfect within easy walking distance of superb restaurants and the mandatory Hole in the Wall pub dating from 1540. Whilst it's on the busy Babbacombe Road you won't be disturbed by traffic noise. Essentially, the Somerville is all about Peter though and his lovely wife Helen. Together they'll always go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Good old fashioned hospitality is for us what a five star boutique B&B should offer and the Somerville delivers in spades.

We have just come back from a lovely short break travelling down to Torquay. This was made so much nicer by our stay here the hosts were very attentive and offer lots of knowledge of local area. Breakfast was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Room was lovely and clean and lots of extras thought about. Thank you for a great stay and look forward to seeing again.

A totally relaxing and perfect break ! Peter and Helen made our stay a wonderful experience. Their attention to detail in the decor, special touches, and friendliness, all make their guest house a special place to stay. Our room was beautifully furnished, clean and warm. Breakfast was freshly cooked, unlimited, and served with a smile, nothing being too much trouble. The room was well equipped with tea and coffee, and bottled water in the fridge. The location is also great, a short walk from the town, harbour and restaurants, and just a few miles from neighboring towns that are worth a visit if time allows. Altogether an experience that we would highly recommend and hope to do again.

Wow! What a lovely place.. Peter & Helen were extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Very welcoming, Beautiful property. Lovely breakfast.Rooms were elegant and very comfortable. Lovely ambience, Would recommend a stay here.

As always, an amazing stay!! Gorgeous breakfast, wonderful rooms and really kind, friendly owners. I regularly come back for my little breakaways. The location is ideal as well. I recommend this whether it’s couples, solo or family. Thank you guys, until next time!

This was our 5th visit to The Somerville and it never disappoints. Peter and Helen always make you feel very welcome. The rooms are excellent, clean & tidy and extremely comfortable. Breakfast is absolutely delicious. And we always enjoy checking to see what the cake of the day is under the stairs.
