Lustig Hostel

Nice hostel but hard beds. Very clean and hot shower.

I can’t say I have ever written a review, but after my experience at this hostel I feel I have to… Firstly, myself and a few friends arrived at 8pm and checked into our 16 bed dorm room. We were asked in a form we had to fill out if we would like curtains around our bunk which we selected yes to. When entering the room it was pitch black, people were in bed. This is slightly understandable as many people book home stays that require an early start. We knew this as we had booked one ourself for the following day. But still slightly odd. When putting our stuff down in the room we realised all of our beds were damp and completely stunk! We went back down to the reception on the way to dinner and let them know that the sheets didn’t smell clean and were still wet (including the mattress and pillow). The reception said they would change these. After coming back from dinner around 10/10:15 we stayed down stairs to plan the next stage of our trip. It was super silent and no atmosphere. Just before 11pm the receptionist said we needed to leave. To where we were unsure as the room was silent and people were asleep. So we asked if we could have a little longer. He didn’t say much until he turned all the lights off at 11pm and said we had to go. We headed up stairs and I took a shower before getting into my bed, hopeful it was dry. There were cockroaches in the bathroom and the shower also had mould in it! When getting into bed we checked the beds and they still stunk and were damp, despite us asking for them to be changed. There was also no curtain put up like we requested. Was a very disappointing experience as a good friend stayed here in high season and said they enjoyed their stay. Would not recommend at all. Although the hostel looks visually appealing, the actual cleanliness and hygiene of the beds/bathroom etc is questionable and the hospitality of the staff wasn’t great.

I am a new tourist to Vietnam, but I was really surprised with the way the staff at this hotel treated Vietnamese people. They scolded and dragged people to the hotel to chase the Vietnamese guests away, but didn't say anything to us. This is the reason why my wife and I do not want to return to SaPa anymore, so I hope everyone will consider carefully. In addition, the hotel rooms here have a lot of insects.

Location isn’t too great as it’s a 15 minute walk from the main centre up a steep hill. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and they assisted us with renting a scooter. I don’t know why everyone raves about the food because it isn’t good at all. In fact most times at breakfast there was barely anything available, and what was left was not very nice (and no we didn’t just eat breakfast at the last minute). The room itself is clean and fairly comfortable, and the bathrooms are nice with hot showers. There are no curtains around the bed and no shelves etc to store your valuables as you go to sleep. All in all, an average stay but consider other places.

I would give a 5⭐️ for the private room but only 4⭐️ for the forms, I stayed in both. Private room is spacious, clean, shared balcony, great bathroom and nicer heater. The dorm was clean with 8 bunks and two bathrooms, but not all the beds had privacy curtains and there was no locked storage area. Heater was great though. Staff is super friendly, good is good and reasonably priced. And there is a place you can leave your luggage if trekking (again, not locked) and/or wait for your transportation to the next leg of your journey. I would stay again but would definitely opt for the private room.
