Staying at the Gateway Varkala was an amazing experience from the friendly staff to the authentic decor and the amazing views of the Arabian Sea. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Every guest was treated specially by the staff from Reggie the concierge to Ashwathy at reception, Sudeep head of security and Dhamesh the general manager. I have stayed at the Taj cove green in Kovellum which is beautiful also but the staff here at the gateway really make it feel like home away from home. A special thanks to the staff and chef in restaurant who were so polite and efficient, producing so many wonderful local dishes.

It is a highly overrated place and definitely not value for money. The location and staff are excellent. Infrastructure needs a lot of work. Food quality is average … We had paid for breakfast, otherwise we would never have breakfast here. Construction activities were going on, and there was a lot of noise of grinding, cutting, hammering all throughout the day. There is seepage on the walls of the room, and this could be unsafe. The place is definitely not worthy of the ratings that it has received at the price point that they charge. However, the staff is extremely polite and they try their best. We will not be visiting again

Once payment is made, their responsibility ends. Room Condition: I saw different photos of hotels and got different rooms. I feel that I got fooled. Parking: No dedicated parking is available. I parked on the road. General Manager: He is very rude. On the call, he told us he would serve food, but upon arrival, he denied it. Room Size: Don't book standard AC rooms; they are very small, and you won't have any view. Overall Review: You will get plenty of options with this price. If you book this, keep your expectations low.

Located on the beach, this a small but good property with all the amenities like pool, restaurant, bar etc. Every room is pool and beach facing. The restaurant food was very good. There was some construction going on so the hotel lobby was a bit dirty. Also there’s not enough parki space. But if you rent a scooty you can park beside the hotel entrance easily.

We had a stay for 2 nights in the hotel in Dec'24. Overall, we felt that there were small things that were either not taken care of or were an inconvenience for us maybe due to luck that made our stay not that amazing. 1. Noisy room—The room we were given was so close to the main road that until late, one could hear vehicular and other noises, causing disturbances to sleep. The room also overlooked the reception area since the middle part of the floor was hollow. This caused more noise to reach the room from guests checking out. 2. Housekeeping issues - The room was not cleaned by Housekeeping despite firm instructions given by us while stepping out. 3. TV - While watching TV was not the main goal of the stay, dealing with a horrible TV with an even more horrible remote is the last thing you need when trying to relax after a tiring day out. It would be unfair if we only called out the problems without mentioning the Good part about the property - 1. Well-behaved staff 2. Proximity to the beach and cliff road 3. Good food We think that the property has good potential to be among the 1st choice for visitors to Varkala if they can focus more on some of the above-mentioned points

The welcome was not ageable. While they handed us the room, they invited us to have a drink in the hotel restaurant, we asked if smoking was allowed and they told us there was no problem. Another English guest sitting at the other end of the restaurant got up and complained about the bad taste of the tobacco. A blonde lady (not Indian) came and asked us to go outside, later we discovered that she was the owner but she never introduced herself, she welcomed us, she never even said good morning and she was never interested in how the stay was. The rooms are nice and clean mini villas but the mattress is so hard that you prefer to sleep on the floor. The restaurant food is good, the restaurant service when they are not on the cell phone are friendly. It is close to the cliff but the roads to get there are very narrow and full of mud. They don't have lighting so you have to use your cell phone flashlight. The general space of the villas is nice but it lacks maintenance. There are ***y cheaper accommodation options on the cliff that I think may be a better option.

Villa Luca is a small, cozy resort with just 9 rooms, 5 mid size rooms on the ground floor and 4 wooden floor rooms in good size on the first floor. All rooms on the first floor have a good sea view and one room on the ground floor has the sea view. There is also a small swimming pool and a tiny restaurant with all the tables facing the sea. 1 room on the ground floor has a jacuzzi…..few deck chairs, a hammock and a good view point is a plus….visit atleast once in your lifetime for a peaceful and quiet stay for 2-3 days…..
