Hotel Karnerhof

We stayed in this hotel for a wellness weekend and were very pleased with the experience. Although the weather was bad, the hotel offered enough content for us to be happy indoors. Here are the main points: 1) We had a standard double room. Although it was in the older part of the hotel, it was completely renovated and very spacious, with a large balcony and a really stunning lake view. The beds, pillows and blankets were very comfortable. There was enough warderobe space and sufficient coat hangers. The bathroom was roomy and modern. Good to know: there are no coffee or tea making facilities in the room, and we were not offered any help with the luggage on arrival. 2) There are two spa areas, an old one with an indoor pool, and a new one, beautifully designed, with a heated large outdoor infinity pool. The pool is some 20m long and wide enough for three people to swim in lanes next to each other. It is really quite the best hotel pool we've seen in Austrian hotels up to now, for people who like to swim and not only bathe. There are also spacious closed showers nearby, marvelously equipped with hangers and a stool (which other spas tend to forget). The saunas are beatiful. The addition of some aroma would be a nice touch. 3) The half-board option is great value for money, since the evening menu is truly excellent. We were not aware of the high culinary standard so we were very pleasantly surprised. Breakfast also had plenty of options. 4) A minus point is that the gym is very basic. There are four cardio machines of good quality, but they are unfortunately squeezed together in a small space (not good in terms of covid-related distancing). The "sports room" nearby is rather big and has only one prehistoric set of four gym machines. There are no proper dumbbells and no gym bench. Our advice to the hotel would be to place some of the cardio machines into this room and to get a proper set of dumbbells and a gym bench. That really does not involve huge investment. However, since the hotel has invested a lot in refurbishment, acquiring a small selection of really good gym machines would be a good idea. The current gym set up really drags down the impression of the hotel. Still, we decided not to reduce the overall number of review points on account of all the other facilities and the food quality. We will be happy to visit again and who knows - perhaps we'll find a pleasant surprise in the gym.

The majority of rooms have been renovated. However our room had still not been renovated but was large and very comfortable with a large balcony and mountain / lake views. If the weather is good, the garden by the lake is beautiful and swimming in the lake is very pleasant. Unfortunately of the three days we were there, we only had one day of nice sunny weather. However the hotel has an indoor pool and a beautiful new outdoor infinity pool. Our only gripe was that the outdoor pool should be a little warmer, especially on days that there is no sun and the temperature drops. The dining room and terrace with the beautiful lake and mountain views was a pleasure. The food was decent. The staff were very friendly and speak English. The meals even include 4 o'clock coffee / cake on the terrace. We enjoyed our short stay here.
