Lovely new 2 level island style home, beautifully furnished, built in the middle of the only native tropical rain forest in the country. Dr Stephen Tarek a recently retired Chiropractor lives quietly upstairs in a separate unit and is available for all immediate needs. As all homes in the Volcano area are somewhat remote, this is also a good security measure. Ground level of home has 2 private bedrooms with new queen beds and luxurious duvet comforters and bedding. Living room has a very comfortable sofa bed full size. There is also an Aero full size bed with all bedding. I am adding an extra bathroom and bedroom off to a small area beyond the back of the home. There will never be work on this when guests are booked. Only between bookings. One large bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and shower. All wood floors and ceiling fans with gas fireplace and beautiful full chefs kitchen with all new Samsung appliances and washer/dryer. Large lotus pond and 2 private covered patios (lanai) with seating. Long desk looking over pond to comfortably be on laptop. Closest home is 400 ft away through the forest, so no next door barking dogs or roosters. Extremely quiet and peaceful, unique and a fully Hawaiian experience. Perfect for those who want to explore and hike in an upper elevation tropical rain forest. Not really the place for loud late night drinking parties. Children are welcome. But. Please note that there is a fish pond with no fence around it. The home is furnished more on the high end with real wood floors and all white duvet covers, linens and towels. Children and teen agers bring a wonderful energy to any home and so far have been great to have here. The home is not exactly "kid friendly" with antiques and artworks that can be pulled down if the child is over active. If this is the case there are many rentals that are in the area that would be a better fit for you if your children are super active. "NOT TO MISS" Big Island Attractions: Volcano National Park hikes and Big Island hikes in general (host can suggest best as there are many); Boiling pots waterfalls; Akaka Falls; City of Refuge in Kona; Hilo town, Hilo Saturday open market, Liliokalani Japanese Gardens/Coconut Island; Volcano open Sunday market; Beautiful drive on highway 250 from Waimea to Hawi and then on to Pololu Valley (great view place and/or hike down to beach/valley) Beach may not be safe for swimming; Honokaa town and Waipio Valley. Beautiful drive from Pahoa to ocean in puna is approx. 2 miles out of Pahoa off highway 130 to 137 called Kama'ili rd. / Opihikau rd. (two names), when at ocean turn right to Kahena beach, most beautiful black sand beach on big island. Entire coast here is a magnificent drive and around 20 min from south to north end without stopping; Beautiful drive between Akaka Falls and Hilo has two names: Scenic Route and Old Mamalahoa hwy. The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is on this road and can be used to GPS the drive. There is a hiking trail next to the garden that goes to the ocean; Beautiful drive from Volcano to Kau desert trail. This trail is usually dry when it is raining in Volcano area. There are Hawaiian warrior footprints in the lava here; Kahena black sand beach (clothing optional and busy on Sundays when there may be 6 konga drums and dancing on beach); Two unique and beautiful swim areas near Hilo are Richardson's Ocean Park (small black sand beach here, be sure to walk past the lifeguard stand, and Carlsmiths beach park are two beautiful and unique swimming/snorkeling spots near Hilo with turtles: Hapuna Beach is a wonderful long white sand beach with crystal clear water and sometimes great bodysurfing. It is usually sunny and dry (best early or after 4pm and on weekdays for less people). The City of Refuge (Pu'uhonua O Honaunau) and Kelalakekua Bay are not to miss and are in the most beautiful area of Kona. So many guests plan with online information that is outdated or not accurate or maybe posted by another tourist who was only here for 2 days. This causes many to miss the best parts of the islands and/or waste their valuable time. Please note that the upstairs of the home is a Private area. Also, the best hiking and walks are at the Volcano Park but some guests walk in the neighborhood. Please don't walk to the right beyond the home as it is a private road. Owner is happy to give recent information on the Volcano National Park, hikes, waterfalls, stargazing, beaches, restaurants/shopping. Unless a short answer it is usually better to call owner ( Steve ) to discuss your plans. 8087213418 It is hard to make suggestions without asking questions of the guests itinerary and this could cause the owner to text and type books. Talking is much easier and faster.About pets:No pets allowed.About checkOut:Check out before 11:00 AM.About children:Children allowed: ages 0-17.Please see house rules. Hale Malie is a charming 1-bed/1-bath cottage retreat on a private half acre of lush Hawaiian rain forest just minutes from Volcano National Park. Featuring vaulted ceilings, a full kitchen, a sunny dining area, and expansive covered lanai, this cottage is ideal for two adult hikers, a couples' getaway, or a timeout for the traveling person. Hale Malie, formerly known as "Second Street Serenity," is perfect for couples seeking to enjoy the sounds of nature and relax in our native forest oasis.Hale Malie is a 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom private cottage that can comfortably accommodate 1-2 guests. Our interior finishes are excellent quality, with dual paned windows, and luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout. Queen size mattress, large bathroom with laundry facilities, living room and kitchen/dining area. The cottage is 500 sq. feet, providing a cozy and intimate experience for guests. As your host, we offer free, fast, and reliable internet as well as a TV in the bedroom equipped with an Amazon Fire Stick for your entertainment, though we suspect you'll want to spend most of your down time sipping a cup of coffee or enjoying a glass of wine on our spacious covered lanai to enjoy the beauty and sounds of nature.Guests will have private access to the entire cottage and carport, which is situated on a 1/2 acre lot encompassed by native forest. For your convenience and flexibility, we offer self check-in. A lockbox code will be provided to you the morning of your arrival. The lockbox is opened by entering the code given to you. Then, you must push the black release lever left and pull down the front of the lockbox door toward you. Once you retrieve the keys, return the lockbox door to its locked position and scramble the lockbox numbers. Please remove your shoes before entering as is the custom in Hawai'i.Our full sized kitchen is available for guests to use with Keurig coffee maker and coffee and tea gratis. There is also an in-unit washer and dryer available to guests. The town of Volcano rains often and gets cold at night. The Volcano area gets over 120 inches of rain annually and temperatures during winter can get below 50 degrees. We recommend bringing a rain jacket, long pants, and warm socks. We have two small umbrellas available for guests to use. When it's raining, the house may get musty, despite our best efforts. We do provide a dehumidifier, ceiling fans, and a heater that work very well to keep our cottage fresh and moisture low.Outdoor living on the covered lanai has never been more enjoyable; with seating perfect for your morning coffee or evening glass of wine, and a propane fire pit to keep you warm and toasty at night. Our cottage is encompassed by the Pu'u Maka'ala Natural Area Reserve, so we are surrounded by some of the Big Island's best wet native forest and unique geological features. The wet koa and 'ohi'a forest of this Reserve Area on the northeast flank of Mauna Loa are important habitat for some of Hawai'i's rarest birds, as well as several rare plants. Because of our lush forest surroundings, please be aware that we sometimes have critters roaming around in the area outdoors, including but not limited to pheasants, spiders, and mosquitos. The household tap water is fresh rainwater collected on site, double-filtered, and UV treated for home use; however, if you prefer not to drink from the tap, we recommend bringing bottled water. Living on an island, our resources are finite so please conserve water whenever possible. We will keep our guests informed if a propane delivery at the rear of the property is necessary during your stay to maintain gas and cooking needs. The town of Volcano approximately one mile away has restaurants and small local convenience stores, which can be a bit pricey compared to other grocery stores. We suggest stopping at stores in Hilo, Kea'au or Mountain View to pick up supplies on the way to Volcano. Before leaving the cottage, we would appreciate if our guests turn off all inside and outside lights and appliances (heater, mattress pad heater, etc.) and that all of the doors and windows are locked. Prior to your checking out, please clean and put away dishes and utensils, and return the key to the lockbox and scramble the numbers.A Ring Doorbell video at the exterior of the front door is for security purposes. Evidence of camera tampering will result in our request for guests to leave. We have a strict No Smoking policy. Please do not smoke in the cottage. If we find evidence that smoking is happening in our cottage, or that it occurred, we will file a claim with VRBO, and ask for $400 reimbursement for damages to our furniture, the unit, and our reputation with the property.Lost Keys. If you lose the keys, there will be a lockout and replacement fee.We pay TAT and GET State taxes of 14.75%, which are included in the nightly rate.We are a legal, fully licensed Short Term Vacation Rental registered with the State of Hawai'i: STVR Registration Number 19-358255 and NUC No. 19-1012.Upon booking this unit, guests agree that (1) they have read and agree to the stated guest policies, (2) they will leave the premises in a neat and tidy condition, (3) they understand that the cleaning fee is non-refundable, and (4) they will agree to indemnify and hold the Property Owners harmless from any liability for personal injury or property damage sustained by guests or individuals invited onto the property by guests.About pets:No pets allowed.About checkOut:Check out before 10:00 AM.About children:Children allowed: ages 13-17.This home is not equipped for young children..About checkIn:Check in after 3:00 PM.About smoking:Smoking is not permitted.About minBookingAge:Minimum age to rent: 21.About events:No events allowed.

Very Good
It should be said that it is a homestay. At the end of a small road on the right of the post office, there is a large yard with free parking. The lady who received us was very enthusiastic and made breakfast for us every day. Basically, we had breakfast at 8 o'clock in the morning when we checked in Only to see her, friends who came late can check in by themselves as long as they read the name of the person who made the reservation on the door of the room. Papaya for breakfast is delicious. Very close to the Volcano Park, 10 minutes by car. There is a good Thai food around the hotel. On the first night, the starry sky we saw in the courtyard of the hotel was not as good as that on the top of the stargazing mountain, so there is no need to come back so late. Hahahaha The price/performance ratio of this hotel is quite high. This area is still a bit cold at night. We bought a car ticket for 30 dollars to go to Volcano Park. You can still enter and leave by ticket the next day. It is a pity that many landscapes in the Volcano Park are closed now, so I can't see it anymore.

Very Good
VvivianttingAccommodation on the Big Island of Hawaii is very expensive. It is difficult to find a good and cheap hotel near the Volcano National Park. The only choice is the B&B. Do not think that the B&B is a single-family villa. This is not a home in Australia or Hawaii. Very expensive, the price you see, you can only rent a room in the villa, the kitchen and living room are to be shared with others. This lodge is less than a hundred years old. It is difficult to find. The place to check in is not together with the lodge, and you must see the check-in time. If you miss it, people will get off work. The staff will give you a map, clear. Tell you where the hut is, or give him the navigation directly. He will help you enter the coordinates, which is easy to find. The hut is about 1 km from the studio and drives very fast. The car can be parked in the open space at the door, the cabin is very clean, the living room is heated and the ceiling fan is on. It seems that the temperature difference between the mountains and the forest is very high. There is also a Chinese family who stays together. It’s just that everyone can chat and not feel restrained. The room is not big, the toiletries in the bathroom are very complete. Fortunately, the upstairs room is on our family. No one shared the bathroom. I have already said that this house has been said for a hundred years. It can be kept like this. It is already very good. There are supermarkets and restaurants nearby, you have to drive out, the price of the supermarket is a bit high, it is better to solve the dinner directly in the restaurant, breakfast can be bought in the supermarket, so the kitchen of the wooden house is useless. When you check out, just throw the key directly into the door mailbox and someone will clean it.
