AVOID AT ALL COST!! Definitely not worth the money and time! We have stayed at much better properties and facilities which are way better than this for a lower cost! Property needs a lot of work! Air con not working properly, shower is blocked and hot water not working properly! Food choice is limited, not great compared with other places we stayed during this Tuscany trip. Staff are generally nice which is the only thing I can say.

This was one of the most spectacular hotel stays we have ever enjoyed. The hotel is essentially a village spread over around 350 stunning acres. The rooms are either in the main building, a classic historic Italian villa, or standalone villas on the estate. We had a two bedroom cottage which offered two bathrooms, a lovely kitchen and living room and large outdoor area including garden and well sized swimming pool. We were also given our own golf cart to travel between our villa and the main complex and elsewhere on the estate. There was lots on offer on the estate. We enjoyed a fantastic cooking class, making fresh pasta which we then had for lunch, and truffle hunting which was great fun and fruitful, complete with two specialist truffle dogs There was a high end restaurant and “Medieval” style banquet room on offer. We ate at both and they were both great and offering variety. Breakfast was served in the main house and excellent. As an alternative, food could be delivered to villas. There were also outdoor bar and restaurant options, offering amazing views of the Tuscan countryside, with availability weather dependent. There was an excellent gym, tennis courts, horse riding, beautiful spa, library, billiards room, pigs and chickens to visit, loads of walking paths, bees, a vegetable garden and more. There was also great art everywhere we went. The staff were all brilliant - friendly and helpful at all times - with a special mention for guest relationship manager Gigi who was just awesome.

What can I say other than this is the most remarkable welcome and hospitality from Gigi and the staff who were wonderful to my wife and Issi my 14 year old daughter. Like anywhere if you make the effort and engage the staff it becomes like a family who just take any stress off and are proud to work there which came across so authentically. Gigi took us on a tour of the wonderful site, the gardens where all of the fresh vegetables are grown and the perfumery with local herbs, honey and grape juice amongst others. I won’t mention the pigs ❤️ The new pool and gym facility is epic and for those cyclists out there bring your bike, if allowed . I cycled to voltera and around the challenging but jaw dropping beautiful countryside and got some coffee stops in on the way. The food, all freshly grown and made on site is sublime and you really get a sense of local quality shining through. Finally every time I walked across the courtyard at 530 am for my bike rides a member of staff appeared from nowhere and brought me a fresh coffee and was really pleasant given the time of day ( it was super hot so do go out early if it’s August time). Gigi hugged me when I left and I was actually rather emotional! It was like being at home in Cyprus again just with a Tuscan warmth.

Another lovely visit. We stayed here back in 2022 and in that review noted that our two nights weren't enough and we needed more time to enjoy the place. Well we came back for four nights to a treat! We were given the Stallina room which is a beautiful little bungalow with the best kitchenette which we used to cook 2 out of our 4 dinners. I just love the smeg appliances and as someone who loves their own cooking getting local ingredients from close by towns and having a lovely meal in with the hubs was also a 5 star treat when you have all the cookware and dinnerware you could need. The bed is super comfy and the ACs a must in the hot Tuscan August sun. The hotel grounds have so much to offer in terms of activities, including many little hikes for those who live a walk. This time we also did a pasta making course with Chef Alessandro which was just fantastic (and we enjoyed the pasta for lunch later as cooked by the chef). The gardens are a wonderful dreamy spot for an apperitivo before dinner - with some of the most breathtaking views of Tuscany. The breakfast at this hotel is probably one of the best anywhere - plentiful and delicious. We did eat dinner at the Al Fresco restaurant the first night which was very good. We ate at the fine dining restaurant (Villa Pignano) the last night of our stay which I have reviewed separately. While our overall experience was lovely (and with particular thanks to the manager Gigi for being so attentive and always checking in) we did share some feedback through the hotel survey which we hope will make this an even more amazing stay in the future.

Recently completed a four-day stay at Borgo Pignana and can’t say enough good things about it. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty by the staff, who were helpful and genuinely happy to have us stay at their estate, which is perched on top of a small mountain, so provides panoramic views of the surrounding Tuscany countryside. We arrived at 11:30, and after a delicious lunch of pasta and red wine our room was ready. On the way to the spa for a 3:00 massage, we stopped at the front desk to get a map of the property and met Gigi - who treated us like we were his long lost relatives! Every time we needed something, whether it was a restaurant recommendation (and then a booked reservation) at one of the nearby towns, or a question about the history of the estate, or anything about Tuscany, Gigi seemed to appear out of nowhere and provided assistance - he is our newest best friend and we will come back just to see him! We have traveled the world extensively over the last 20 years and stayed at some of the finest resorts, and Borgo Pignano ranks in the top 10. All the food comes from the grounds of the estate, is made daily and they have an impressive wine cellar. There are miles of forested trails that you can walk, bike or ride on horseback. There is an equestrian center, 3 beautiful infinity pools, bocce, tennis and basketball courts, and a new fitness center. The property is immaculately maintained, the staff is courteous and helpful, and most importantly we left feeling rested and relaxed, on our way to our next adventures in Florence and Sorrento. We plan to come back next fall with our 3 children and their spouses. Arrivederci to one of our new favorite places! Jeff and Janice, August 2024

Searching for the authentic soul of Tuscany ... Borgo Pignano, Volterra My bride and I are travel advisors. We have vetted properties all over Italy. Additionally I am first generation Italian and I speak Italian. Our oldest daughter, her husband, and our grandson live in Florence. Humbly we know Italy well. We just stayed at Borgo Pignano. It is truly a special place. There are many we would suggest in Tuscany and for that matter Italy and some that we would not. Specifically Borgo Pignano for the traveler who wants to experience luxury but also wants to touch the soul of Tuscany Borgo Pignano is a must. The accommodation and its interiors are not dated but classically Tuscan. There are many accommodations that the exterior displays the essence of Tuscany but the interiors could be found in any modern hotel in the world. There is nothing wrong with that type of product but if you truly want authenticity give Borgo Pignano a shot. They have dishes that are classic to the area as well modern Italian dishes and dishes that are en vogue globally. The entire staff in every facet are delightful. The property was sold-out but it did not feel full or crowded. If you are looking for that Tuscan countryside rest, go! There are many diverse activities to enjoy in the outdoors. My son in law and I biked to Volterra one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in Italy. The organic farm, chickens, pigs, and horses provide the re-connect with nature that city living lacks. you can take a painting class, cooking class, sit by the pool, or get a workout in the gym. The property lends itself to couples on honeymoon or a romantic get away as well as a perfect destination for families with children of all ages.

An excellent stay at this delightful Tuscan retreat. From the moment of our arrival and until our departure we received excellent and friendly service from all the staff. The views from all around the hotel were stunning, the food was delicious and served with care and attention. After 4 days in Florence this was a truly peaceful location in beautiful surroundings. We’d love to return one day!
