It's quite remote, but well worth trying. Living here will give you a rare experience. Spoiler alert, you can see fluorescent bugs for free🐛(👀)

The view was absolutely amazing. I posted a picture with a note. You can see Mordor door from here. The sun rise over Mordor was fantastic. Angus, our host was informative and interesting to talk to. He and his wife are active in many positive social and environmental organizations in the area. The cabin said everything you would need to make your own breakfast and we’re very comfortable. You did have to go outside to go to the unattached bathroom, but it was well equipped good hot water and everything you need. I was pretty glad for that because I got up to go and got to see the sunrise. A warning the road is pretty curvy getting there and the driveway is very narrow and goes on longer than you think until it turns into a dirt road however well worth the effort. Just mentioning that so you won’t feel like you got lost on the way there or going up the driveway. We are so glad that our excellent travel agent Creative Kiwi found this site for us. The glamping tent may have been the best accommodation of all.

Angus was a welcoming host and let us leave our luggage despite our cabin not being ready yet (we were early). He offered us a coffee and gave us some good tips about where to go and what to do. The cabin is lovely but only note that the bathroom (toilet and shower) are in a separate cabin requiring you to go outside first. On a cold/wet night like ours, that isn't a pleasant experience. Suggestions: Nespresso coffee machine, better shower amenities (separate shower gel and shampoo), curtains over kitchen window and a less noisy mini bar.

What a beautiful, cofortable place! We had just finished a Blackwater Rafting tour and were feeling a little overwhelmed and a lot tired when started making our way up to our glamping accomodations at Te Tiro. Even just making our way up to the entry was relaxing...such a beautiful and lush place. The glamping tent itself is so cozy and comfortable, and it is definitely the way to feel a part of the natural environs without sacrificing comfort. We can't recommend this place highly enough! Also, just as a side note, Angus and his wife Rachel are the nicest people! I had messed up my itinerary and called them when I realized I was coming a day earlier than I had reserved. Rachel jumpe right on this and called to find us 3 places with rooms for us. Crisis averted with her help! Angus met our car personally and showed us around. We appreciate this personal kindness so much!

We were quite excited to visit the glow worm caves in Waitomo and just as excited about staying at Te Tiro. They certainly exceeded our expectations. Angus and Rach were so warm and inviting and could not have been more delightful. Angus is very knowledgeable of the area and a treasure trove of knowledge on just about any topic. When we were leaving we requested some ice; Angus was kind enough to generously offer us his Igloo ice block when was so helpful. The cottage in which we stayed was exactly as pictured and very comfortable. We had everything that we needed including a very nice breakfast with cereal, milk, toast and jams. Very thoughtful in thinking ahead of what their guests may need. We weren’t sure what to think when initially booking in reading that the bathroom was separate from the room but this was completely not an issue in the least. The glow worm grotto was amazing and it was so peaceful wandering the grounds with the trails through the pastures. Truly a little slice of heaven and would highly recommend without reservation.

Angus greeted us on arrival and showed us around the property to make sure we found everything. He was full of advice on the many activities in the area, we would have needed to stay longer to check everything out. He even showed us his fossil collection. I was sad to leave, he took such good care of us, and made us feel like family. Our family group rented all three accommodations for two nights. Angus supplied a crib cot in one of the cabins for our youngest. The glamping tent was perfect for the toddler, low beds, and rugs over the floor. The cabins were well equipped for preparing a light breakfast, which was supplied. Juice, yogurt, cold cereal, and toast with butter, marmalade and jelly. Freshly ground coffee in a press and hot chocolate powder. They even supplied marshmallows to toast over the outside firepit. The bathrooms for the cabins are located outside the cabins, but don't worry, you walk on the deck to get to them, and the way is covered. For the tent you do need to walk in the weather, but it includes a tub on the deck, great for soaking in the view. The kitchenette for the glamping tent is outside the tent with a bar area to watch the sunrise as you sip your coffee. Check out their Instagram for pictures of the views! The units are situated on top of a ridge so you get sunset and sunrise. We even had a view from the bathroom. The private glowworm grotto was a treat. And there were sheep and cattle in the fields.

I don’t think I could have imagined such a great place. Spectacular grounds and views, and even better hosts. I was welcomed like I was family which made my solo trip that much better. Not to mention, the property is beautiful. I strongly recommend hiking around if you have the time.

What an absolute delight and privilege to have stayed at the magical glamping tent. Angus and Rachel were so welcoming and friendly and this treasure is a true testament to their obvious love of the place. Clean, stunning views, lots of little extra touches to warm you heart. One of the best accomodation we have had in recent years. Thanks so much guys. We will be recommending to all our friends as they travel this way. Kylie & Steve
