Holiday Inn Express Rotherham North, an IHG Hotel

Normally don’t have an issue with Holiday Inn Express, and use all the time when away on business, but this one, well what a disaster. The hotel lacks any soul, it’s cold and unfriendly, staff don’t have customer service skills and appear like customers are an inconvenience to them. The WiFi is terrible, totally unstable and trying to work in my room ended impossible, carpet had stains on it in the bedroom, and for the 3 nights I was staying here, I had a empty body wash in the shower, not replaced. Certainly not a hotel I will recommend to colleagues or return to, such a shame as gives Holiday Inn Express a bad name.

Accessible room was not very good. The room was freezing, and we had to get a heater from the reception. the Wet room needs more hand rails as there's no rail near the door my wife was going in the shower when the door closes on her fingers, also the light switch near the beds are too far away you have to get out of bed to turn the lights on or off. possible fault with the new TV I was unable to watch it sat in the chair as the TV screen went blank when too close. Tap in the wet room, loose Tiling around the sink needs attention and top it off no hot water thd next morning. not forgetting the house keeping staff letting thd door close on its own making a loud bang each time

Unfortunately, I didn't read the other reviews before arriving at the hotel, BIG mistake. The man on the desk said he couldn't find my room on the system, I'd booked a twin room. Instead he offered me an accessible room, only staying for one night I agreed to take this room. The lighting was dim and we decided to open the curtains, this meant we could turn off the lights. only we couldn't because the light switch by the bedside lamp was broken. We returned to reception and told them about the light. The nice man apologised and moved us to another room this time on the second floor. In the room we found a double and a sofa bed even though I had asked if it was a proper single bed and was reassured it was. In the bathroom at first glance it looked okay, but when I looked in the shower their was soap scum around the plug hole from a prior customer, Yuck! Also I noticed when washing my hands at the sink the overflow was blocked with scum and who knows what. Because we had places to be, we didn't complain. We came back to the hotel around 10:30pm and it was very quiet in the main area. In the room we put on the TV which was very loud, the remote didn't work and the buttons on the TV didn't work so we turned it off again. The next morning we had a light breakfast and left. We will never book into this hotel again, I would rather pay more and stay at the Premier Inn half a mile down the road.

This unnerved me a little, after several minutes at the desk waiting for the very nice polite man to find my room, I realised the two men were security. Talking to locals they said the hotel is used as a half way house for refugees and for people who have just got out of prison.
