The Hind Hotel

My Family booked 6 rooms and had very nice rooms, We also booked the restaurant for 24. Probably delivered 8 different starters 10 different mains and 8 different puddings. All were excellent but more importantly they all came hot and tasty. I could not fault the waiting staff and bar staff, so patients (remember 24 meals to the right person's) They were friendly helpful, all with a smile. Absolutely awful WiFi and the all night noise off music and people talking loudly from the club next to the hotel kept us awake. We gave up trying to sleep through the nightclub noise after 1am and left. They won't tell you this before you arrive, so if you require WiFi for any reason, or a quiet night sleep, I would definitely avoid. I did complain about it, but they weren't interested. Clearly, they're more concerned about taking your money than they about providing decent accommodation or dealing with customer complaints appropriately. Also, lots of areas need a bit of maintenance. See photos from our room as examples.

Hotel is great for the architecture being it's an old coach house with history . Staff very friendly. Hotel looks sad .very tired .worn out carpets .broken windows covered with old boxes 📦 cardboard instead of glass . Old cigarette buts left in the entrance area as you walk in . Our room was OK Beds ok nothing great Bathroom clean but borderline . Toilet seat didn't fit the pan and was wonky. Very odd smell in the bathroom which wasn't plesent. Breakfast wasn't good at all Came out cold .the sausage was hard and tasteless We had to ask for toast Very strange not having a toaster which you can help yourself to . Had to ask for a croissant which again came out from the kitchen after the breakfast .. Orange and Apple juice was poor quality ..very very sweet /almost like a suger drink. Wall Panals buy the tables were breaseblock and brick base some only half cleaned .the base /bricks where we sat was covered in old wrappers and looked like it had not been cleaned for years . Think maybe they need to tidy this up as not nice for people staying there . As I said with the box cardboard covering broken windows the poor state of the carpets and especially the stair ones .and the poor decor in the dinning room . It's a hotel needing a lot of love and attention. a good clean and the decor being put right . Shame thease lovely homes get neglected.

I used to live in the town and occasionally visit friends the hind has been the consistent place to stay while I come here the rooms have been updated since my last visit and they are beautiful very clean and comfortable I had a room at the back end of the hotel so I knew i would get a good night's sleep I was woken up at 8.30 am by an alarm probably caused by a guest opening an alarmed exit but I did get back to sleep again thank you for a lovely stay in a town I have the fondest memories of

Stayed for business. One night. Thats enough. Travelled 180 miles. Was ringing the hotel over the entirety of that 4 hour journey as wanted the car park instructions. No one picked up. Arrived after parking 400 yards away and being verbally abused by very drunk homeless people outside. The building looks fabulous. I was therefore very surprised at entering this period building to blaring techno. I actually don;t mind techno, but.... Spoke to the receptionist about trying to ring, she said she was on her own, so wasn't taking phone calls. I enquired about the car park... Good luck with that. 1st come 1st serve and they shoe horn cars in like you would not believe. I was informed by receptions she couldn't advise anywhere for me to park. Ace. I went into the bar / restaurant. Despite being in the hotel, it opens into the town centre. It has a late night 2 shots for £2 vibe. Cheap, very cheap. Sticky. Its my own fault. I ordered food. More fool me. Fish and chips. easy right. Not so, I got the fish and chips except the fish was minus any fish, it was just batter. Returned the fishless fish, ordered a new meal, chef was obviously disgruntled and my second meal came out deliberately cold. I ate my second meal in a smog as clientele and staff smoke in a doorway entering the bar area to watch the TV. I retired to my room as quickly as I could. I can't add anything further. The building is grand, the carpets however, facades, balustrades, decor have needed updating since the cavaliers and roundheads stayed there. Rooms are frankly crap. Windows old, broken etc. I stayed on the look of the place and felt with 400 years of history it would be better. It isn't. Its lamentably crap

Although my first impression of the hotel was that it was rather 'tired', this was misleading. My single room was generously sized and furnished to a high standard. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean. Toiletries provided in shower room smelled great too. The quality of food at both breakfast and dinner was really great. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Bit noisy on Saturday night, as there was a live band performing, but apart from that I slept really well.
