We stayed at the hotel on a dbb basis via hotel breaks. We had a warm reception on arrival, and was able to check in early. The room was large and bright, and very clean. The views out to Arran were amazing. We went for our dinner at 7 restaurant was busy but sat down quickly. My wife had the chicken tempura for starter I had the haggis pakora. The mains were spicy chicken and beef pie. Sorbet and sticky toffee pudding. The food was excellent, the only let down was the staff were slow at removing plates and providing next course. A few tables were left with plates on them for a good 30/40 minutes before been cleared. Breakfast in the morning we took in the room again this was excellent. We did ask for tea but this didn't arrive. Just small issues but nothing that puts me off. I will visit again hopefully when the sun is shining, and we can benefit from the beach. Would highly recommend.

Exceptional View from this hotel located on the beach. It was so welcoming, cosy and warm. The appearance and rooms were outstanding as were the staff who were very friendly and very accommodating. Food was amazing with plenty of choice. Can’t wait to return.

Room 313. Very nice and clean. Our fourth visit. Meal.. starters haggis and tempura chicken both lovely. Husband’s main of salmon was good, i ordered fish and chips, as i had before and it was nice previously. This time the fish batter was hardly cooked. Server asked how we found it and i said fish needed more cooking. So i was given a fresh fish and chips and to be honest it was exactly the same. The original server said she couldn’t believe it when she saw the other server bring it to me as it was still hardly cooked. Desserts were nice. Overall service excellent but even after being given a free drink each, the chef really needs to listen to constructive criticism. Breakfast was average. Still enjoyed our stay and cannot fault the staff….

Booked a deal for £150 for one mid week nights stay, a 2 course meal, a bottle of wine, and breakfast for my engagement. Asked for a sea view. Rooms were spacious and clean. However ours looked right onto a building site as the hotel is being extended, so not the idyllic view we were after. And no prior notice of building works going on, so pretty noisy. Didn't know we had to travel 20 mins by car to use the sister hotels thermal suite. I should have checked that, granted. Took a lot longer due to immense road works in the area. And the thermal suite is booked on the hour so we were stressed trying to get there on time as no one warned us about the roadworks either. Dinner was nice but very small portions. Chicken a bit over cooked and hard. Breakfast was literally a mini breakfast, not a full one. Half a black pudding. Quarter a tomato, a spoonful of haggis, and half a bit of bacon with the sausage and potato scone. I must say I was pretty shocked at how miserable the portion was? What's that all about? I don't know if this is because we were part of a 'deal' or not. Otherwise, staff very friendly and attentive and the place has a nice atmosphere. Would still come back. But I'd request a room away from the extension if you actually want to get a nice view. I think communication about building works would have been polite, but I suppose they want to keeo business coming in, hence the deal.

Good points, Room lovely, very modern with a good standard of cleanliness and great view. Location great and design of hotel high quality. Food fantastic! However when it came to service within the restaurant we did feel theycould have been more attentive, asked for water not provided and no wine glasses for our wine and had to ask after our starter, no offer of desert menu at the end. Breakfast lovely more attention should be given to cleanliness of plates after coming out of dishwasher as numerous plates not clean. Would visit again.

Wholesome food, served piping hot. Lots of seating but lucky enough to get near the window. Service was better than previously experienced with staff on hand to assist. Great location with beach access and sitting area outside for the warmer weather.

The Waterside used to be my favourite hotel in this area. The food was fantastic and I always enjoyed my three course. I loved the rooms with their Juliet balconies and the stunning views. But oh my, how it has all changed now. When I stay at the Waterside, I always request a 'Sea view Classic' room for the wonderful views out to Arran. On my last visit, I was given room 314. This room did not quite have the vistas promised, but instead I had the wonderful view of a building site complete with scaffolding all around it. I do understand that the hotel has an expansion program under way at the moment, but the hotel should have informed us of that and the room should have, in my opinion, a subsidised room rate. After all, I paid extra for the view, so now that they have ruined that, it should not be the same as the other Sea view classic room rates. Makes sense to me? If I had known this before I booked, I would not have made the booking. Why pay extra for a view of a building site? However, on to dinner. As I mentioned I always enjoyed my three courses in the Waterside restaurant, but unfortunately this visit would change that opinion. My partner and I were given a booth to sit in as we looked over the menu. We were handed one piece of paper from the waiter and when I pointed out that we were not 'voucher' clients, he brought us the ala carte menu explaining there would be a £30 per head allowance against our order from this menu. To be honest, there was not much more choices between the voucher menu and the ala carte! For starters, I ordered the chicken parfait and my partner ordered the prawn cocktail. We both ordered the fillet steak but we were informed by the waiter that the Kitchen had ran out of fillet steaks earlier. The time was 19:45hrs and we were both surprised. How can a kitchen manage to run out of the leading dish on the menu at a quarter to eight on a Saturday night? Surely this is a kitchen disaster? The supplement for a Fillet steak was £5. How much did the kitchen loose that night? Moving on I settled for Fajitas and my partner had the spicy chicken breast. The starters arrived and were really pretty poor. The prawns in the cocktail were perhaps the smallest prawns I have ever seen. It was as if they came from a frozen food bag from Iceland. My chicken parfait was also suspiciously looking like it was store bought too. Not very impressive for the prices charged. Next up was my fajitas. Store bought tortillas, store bought crème fraiche, store bough guacamole. The chicken was prepared in a tasteless sauce and yet this was the only part of it that was down to the 'chef'?? My partner’s spicy chicken was also equally uneventful. We were offered the sweet menu, but we declined because after two awful courses, we didn't want to risk (or waste any more money on) another course. Over all, my partner give dinner a 3/10 and I gave mine a 4/10. Poor show Waterside. Do you not have any Chefs in the kitchen anymore? That standard of food s
