The Waterside Hotel

A nice hotel in a glorious location, made even better by excellent weather. We stayed 2 nights, eating in the hotel the first night. This was 'OK' at best - more along the lines of pub grub than restaurant food. Our room was very pleasant, with no noise at all, and a great view out to sea/Arran. A small problem with the electronic door locks was solved reasonably efficiently, with a small refund for our troubles. A spa is in the process of being built - it was due to be finished by 'early 2025' when we booked a couple of months ago, but is now apparently due to be completed around August!

Stayed for one night. We booked a deluxe sea view room. All photos on website depict a large room with Juliet balcony. On arrival we were allocated a small room with a small window, no balcony. When seated could see nothing out window. On speaking to reception we did get moved to a room matching deluxe description but begs the question why we were not allocated this in the first place. Drinks service was on the slow side but dinner was nice. Breakfast lovely but again service a bit slow. All in all a good night away but addressing the minor details could make it great.

On a rare Scottish spectacular sunny day, the location of this place cannot be argued with, HOWEVER.................... having eaten in here many, many times over the years this was, by far, the worst experience I have encountered here. What was meant to be a celebratory afternoon with friends resulted in a complete deflation on our energy. We felt completely forgotten about, slow service, some poor quality food, poorly displayed plates (prawn tempura with zero garnish) and all in all we were were so bittery disappointed by the whole experience. Erin a lovely waitress who is a credit to the organisation did offer "me" (there were 6 of us though) a complimentary drink which I did take but do be completey honest as nice as the gesture was, it was too little too late at that point. Normally we would have had desserts and coffee but not this time. We were advised that there was a staff issue but to be honest, that's not the customer's problem,any staffing issues should have been invisible to us. Sorry Simpsons, this is just not what we have become accustomed to!

Beautiful location, very good room, spacious, clean, great views. The food was also very good. Our stay was let down by poor service, in particular in the bar, the service was woeful, indeed rude, which is a shame. Otherwise, an enjoyable stay with friends.

the meals were great ,went there twice 2 nights running,,the chefs soups were great esp the carrot and syrup ,sounds crazy but it was actually great,also the service from our 2 waitresses were spot on and the views were lovely ,would defo go back here .Pete and Mum

Friendly welcome. Didn't have a booking but got a table, no problem. Good choice on the menu. Waitress was polite and informative. Not rushed. The plates were warm. Food was freshly cooked and well presented. Sunday roast was amazing. Toilets were clean. Lovely day and looked like a nice outside space. We chose to eat indoors.
