Cosy pub/ restaurant with rooms. Nice situation. Quaint. I liked the ambience, it was nice that the antiquated old decor remained it gave the place authentic charm. Lovely outdoor garden. Easy access to Whitby and surrounding walking routes. I enjoyed the coffee and tea in our bedroom. There was a lovely platter of bread cheese and cake awaiting us on arrival

Another great night at athe Horseshoe Hotel. Areal old fashioned place, great bar with log fire, 3 real ales, excellent food and huge breakfast. So welcoming and more especially for dogs...they are the important guests. Rather a "Faulty Towers" place with manners is how we describe it.... but do go here for the warm friendly atmosphere. Thanks to Craig, Tony and Sharron....... sad to see your leaving but feel new lease holder will continue the excellent atmosphere. Well done and thanks.

Please don’t bother!! We stayed at The Horseshoe, the website looked lovely with lots of locally sourced extras.. In reality it was totally opposite! Positive feedback, good Guinness, nice, helpful young staff. The rest, was really so very disappointing! Slow cooker belly pork in reality was a pork loin chop minus half the items it was meant to be served with! The burger comes with Kraft cheese slices on it! Local sausage for breakfast i am sure was a cheap frozen sausage, did mention to the owner/ chef but the reply was “we sometimes have them but not today!!” After the mediocre meal my partner and I sat infront of the fire in the dining room remarking about the interesting decor in the property when the shower in the above bedroom decided to pour through the ceiling land on yours truly! The owner came through and said it happens cause the floors are not level, no apology or care! The place needs a good clean, a change of decor and some tlc Such a shame!!

We went to stay here for our wedding anniversary we booked it through pets and pyjamas as the reviews looked good and we had stayed a few years ago in our camper and had a meal that was good. We arrived and a young g man showed us to our room that was up some very steep stairs to room 3. We took our dog too as we have been in doggy hotels before which were lovely, this was not! The room stunk of dog. The bed was an old disgusting divan bed with the springs coming through the mattress and the quilt was about 2 inches thick baring in mind it was 4 degrees outside( and not much warmer inside) The bathroom was freezing, the toilet seat all chipped and the bath was covered in black mould and the bath panel was practically falling off. The towels were the size of a postage stamp and practically see through they were that thin. There was no kettle in the room only a filthy espresso machine but tea bags? There were cobwebs all over the sealing and the place just looked filthy with pieces of wood to hold open the windows. On our way in we had come through the restaurant/ bar that was freezing cold with no fires on although there were two fireplaces and we were booked for dinner that night how uninviting is that and it was dark and dingy with not very nice furniture. Needless to say we put all our stuff back in the car and left and they were not concerned at all even though we were supposed to be staying 2 nights. We had paid up front so I will be trying to get my money back on Monday. We have since learnt the place is up for sale it is such a shame as this could be a hidden gem

Stayed here earlier this week (Jan 2025). This could be a great Motorhome stopover as we got a level pitch and strong free electric but we found the pub poor and the restaurant over-priced and poor quality cooking. Poached seafood dish we both had should be avoided, frankly amazed any chef let this out of the kitchen. We won't be returning. Check opening hours for the pub and farm shop plus train times in winter as they are v limited. Interior of the pub/restaurant is in need of a deep clean and investment. Morning cockerels as others warned must be expected so be prepared. Since our stay I’ve noticed the place is up for sale which explains the lack of investment.

Firstly, I should say that I very rarely give negative reviews. However, in this case, I need to make an exception for the DISGUSTING way that the owner, CRAIG SHELL, spoke to myself and my pregnant girlfriend – in response to us asking a straightforward question about loud music being played. He later threatened to remove us from the hotel for asking him a question. We stayed NYE 2024, when the hotel had a series of events on including a 4-course meal (costing £65), a band, saxophone player and midnight BBQ. This sounds like a sophisticated evening – which should be for the high cost of the meal. Although, what transpired was an extremely loud band playing rock music which could be heard from every corner of the hotel, followed by an unscheduled ‘disco’, catering for drunk (mainly teenage, non-resident) customers. The sax player never turned up. We went to an event off-site from 10pm-00:45am and arrived back to the disco which had become something akin to a nightclub/youth club – fuelled by alcohol. We completely understand that people party on NYE, get drunk, sing, etc. and we gave until 2am before my girlfriend POLITELY asked Craig to turn the music down. He instantly became ANGRY and ABUSIVE preceding to call her “stupid” for booking the hotel on NYE and getting uncomfortably close to her face shouting at her. My Girlfriend started retreating in the direction of the rooms to evade Craig and his angriness, where followed her. My girlfriend asked him to stop following, but he continued, indicating that he “would go anywhere he liked in his hotel!”. This is a CREEPY, arrogant, and inappropriate thing to say to a female guest. Craig is a BULLY, and the other reviews show that he picks on and tries to assert his dominance over female guests. Other guests and I could hear the commotion of Craig shouting and came downstairs. When I reached the corridor, I met a drunk red-faced Craig who became incredibly angry towards me as well – getting in my face, repeatedly saying that it is NYE and reiterated that we are “STUPID” for booking a room in his hotel. At one point, I was worried he was going to get violent. He argued that the loud music was communicated clearly on the hotel’s website and to the guests. If you see the screenshots provided, you can clearly see this is not true. Craig then angrily explained that he has a license until 5am the next day and would keep the pub open until the last guest leaves. I have never known this attitude before in my life – any reasonable/professional establishment would give you an estimate of the time that a ridiculously loud event would end. When I questioned this and asked him why he was so angry, he threatened to EVICT me and my PREGNANT* girlfriend out of the hotel – AT 2AM ON NYD!! What a fantastic start to the New Year by the owner of the hotel I have paid £240 to stay in. We had done absolutely nothing wrong. *Craig knew that my GF was pregnant as he also had a pop at us for not being out for a drink

Booked for New Years Eve as a change to staying at home, we like the Egton area for walking so booked in for just the one night, and chose to eat in the restaurant on the evening for a NYE set menu at £65pp. We arrived at 1.30ish after walking 7 miles to Glaisdale and back to Egton Bridge and asked if they were serving food (sandwiches etc), we were bluntly told no due to staff shortages. We went to the Wheatsheaf nearby and had a light lunch - which was lovely. On checking into our room I immediately noticed the grime and that it could clearly benefit from a good deep clean (see pictures). There was still soap in the shower from previous guests, the coffee machine was dirty and old. We had our meal after drinks in the bar, food was really nice, then there was a band in the bar - playing the heaviest rock music imaginable, not ideal in a small bar area! We stayed up until 12.15ish then decided after a full day we'd go to bed. Sadly for us our room (no.2) was directly above the bar, where the band had now packed up but the manager Craig was playing the music from Alexa so VERY loud anx by now it was after 1.30am. A lady in the room next to ours went down to ask if they could turn down the volume - he was rude and obnoxious stating it was NYE and it was to be expected, he was quite frankly threatening and it made me uncomfortable to hear how he spoke to her. He was shouting up the stairs at her which was totally unacceptable. About an hour later the music was still blaring, she again went down and I joined her, we were told the music could go on until maybe 5am ?? It seemed to fade about 3am, which was still far too late for paying guests, who had paid for bed and breakfast, not to party. We were chatting to a lady in the bar who told us she is thinking of buying the property as it is for sale - I really hope she does and puts money into it to modernise and clean it - and maybe some staff training on customer service.
