I have been to Wick three times - twice at MacKay’s and once at another hotel. MacKay’s is undoubtedly the better hotel. The hotel has a faded elegance that can be quite charming, and it is certainly a better hotel than Wick deserves with spacious rooms and a great restaurant. However the decor and fittings are a bit old.

The room was very small and overlooked the river. Pretty noisy at 5am when the fishing boats come in with the seagulls. The room was very dated but clean however there were a few issues in the bathroom. An area on the floor, around the shower screen and particularly the wash basin overflow was very dirty. We didn’t eat in the restaurant on the evening however breakfast was very good. 9 items on the cooked breakfast and massive portions! Staff attentive.

Mackays Hotel is first class, from the welcome at the reception, all the staff and of course Ellie and Murray. The rooms are spotless and spacious. I have had dinner on our Highland Safari every year since 2001 (covid years do not count) the food is wonderful and the service is very professional. The Cullen Skink is the best we have ever had. I want the recipe :)

Filthy dirty apartment. Remnants of food all over floor. Very dirty kitchen. Microwave disgusting. Even lights in the restaurant hanging with cobwebs. These rooms had clearly not been cleaned and considering price at over £150 per night it was very very poor value and definitely would not recommend this place to friends or colleagues.

Very nice and traditional Hotel in the centre of Wick. Room was tastefully decorated, and everything was very clean. Food was superb- best steak I have had in years! A good effort at fine dining, and both evening meal and breakfast was delivered by staff wearing white gloves! Friendly receptionist, and little to criticise..

Booked a relaxing weekend in wick, with my wife, after searching we found this gem, the first might food was outstanding and the hospitality was the same, we had another night here and decided to go back, again outstanding food, we asked to speak personally to the chef and thank him for food, such a humble gentleman, will definitely be back, if your ever in Wick you'll not be disappointed with the hospitality and the food, will be back

We had a great two night stay, we were upgraded to a super room overlooking the river and were extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were very nicely cooked and the buffet was nice too. We dined on the first night and had excellent Scrabster haddock which was perfectly booked and accompanied with superb chips, tartare sauce and mushy peas.

Room clean and furniture looked brand new but still had old fashioned feel to it. On a junction so quite noisy ,especially as windows old and not double glazed. Evening meal was very nice and breakfast good also . Ok for a nights stay in around that area
