My husband & I decided to stay at the Zevely based upon positive reviews. Although the inn & historical area are lovely, our experience did not match other's. -- We tried to be accommodating, respectful guests but innkeeper Cherie Gordon acted like we were an imposition with her curt attitude. She may have been having a bad 3 days, but her tone of voice was extremely unwelcoming. When another couple came to the front door saying they had stayed there years ago when 2 guys ran the inn, Sherie quickly & abruptly "corrected" them, saying that was NEVER the case ~ although she is not the owner & hasn't worked there exclusively. Even if the couple was wrong, there are polite ways to communicate. -- There were no expected amenities available like: coffee, afternoon cookies, wine & cheese or soft drinks. In the morning, if we went to the common room awaiting breakfast (which was delicious) it again felt like an imposition to ask for a cup of coffee. -- Tablecloths were not washed/replaced between diners. Cherie carried a white rag & spot cleaned obvious dirty spots. This made one wonder if the same was done with the bed linens ~ a very disturbing thought. -- A sign that the owners aren't involved is the fact that no one replies to any comments on Tripadvisor. That's unfortunate. The inn is a beautiful property with a ton of history, which Cherie said she would share with us, but never did. Overall, the inn building is very nice, but.... I won't be returning there. Additionally, the "Tavern" restaurant across the street is closed, a victim of COVID and a few stores are also empty, giving Old Salem a bit of a ghost-town feel. It is still worth a visit, but staying outside the Old Town in walking distance of restaurants would be advisable.

I come to Old Salem occasionally for programs at the Museum, and at least five times I’ve stayed here. No better place. This time I had an extremely private room on the ground floor with an entrance through the garden. Lovely furnishings and such an interesting neighborhood. The other guests are often interesting people too!

My third stay in Old Salem at the Zevely. Very comfortable room in an old house restored to period detail like the other museums, shops, and private houses in Old Salem. Cherie, the Innmaster, is welcoming and accommodating, and she cooks a delicious breakfast. I was there for a seminar at the Museum old Early Southern Decorative Arts, within walking distance. Sadly the Tavern across the street is still closed since the Covid lockdowns, so you’ll need wheels to get dinner.

Beautiful historic hotel to impress your girlfriend when your wife is out of town! Very romantic, a little bit pricey, but well worth the money. Sits back in the cut so cars are hard to be seen. Thank you, my mistress Misty Moffitt.

There is so much to recommend the Zevely Inn, starting with its great location in the heart of Old Salem; but also its friendly and considerate innkeeper and breakfast cook extraordinaire, Cherie; its cozy rooms (love the period details - there was even a framed sampler on the wall); lovely parlor in the common area; and pleasant backyard to sit in the sun if the weather is nice enough. We stayed in the summer kitchen, which is downstairs and has a private entrance; I got a peek at the winter kitchen suite which would also be a good choice, or maybe the Augustus Zevely room next time?!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the lovely and historic B&B. The rooms are wonderfully appointed with beautiful antiques. The food for breakfast is top notch. The Manager Cherie is so helpful and considerate. Cannot say enough great things🤗

We spent 2 nights in a terrific room. The Innkeeper, Cherie, cooked two fabulous breakfasts. And she provided great tips for restaurants and places to visit. We had a wonderful stay! Highly recommended!

My wife and I stayed at the Zevely Inn Feb 4-6, 2022. We stayed in the Winter Kitchen room --which was very appropriately named since the weather outside was very cold. The room was cozy and comfortable, though with the fireplace in the bedroom. The bed was firm and comfortable for great sleeps. The bathrooms are well-stocked and efficient. Each room has bottled water available. Our room had a private entrance, which made coming and going even more convenient. The inn is situated in the heart of Old Salem, perfect for touring all the historic district sites and the nearby farmer's market. It's also very convenient to downtown Winston-Salem.: just a 3-5 minute drive straight up the road. The breakfast was excellent and filling. A guest could not ask for more. Ms. Cherie is a generous hostess and answered all our questions about Old Salem and the surrounding area. I will recommend the Zevely Inn to anyone traveling, not just to Old Salem, but to the greater Winston-Salem area. It's convenient and quiet, and the perfect place to stay and to get away.
