The Moorland Hotel

Amazing find, the people and food are fantastic, spectacular views of the moors and sea been here twice now and never disappoints, old feel of comfort and relaxation, plenty of great walks with wildlife, horses, deer, cows, sheep rabbits etc seen daily

As previously mentioned the exterior is dated but having read the good reviews this didn’t matter I checked in and was given room 5 wow lovely view from the window That’s where the positivity ends The toilet had faeces still on the side the shower area was riddled with black mould. The walls had damp and wallpaper peeling off There was no way I was staying there When I went to complain and say I would t stay there they didn’t even ask me what was wrong with the room. I was given the key to room 13 On first glance wasn’t bad Went and had food which was lovely Came back to room then started to notice more mould and peeling wallpaper sockets didn’t work etc The noises of people in the other rooms/corridor left me feeling unsafe and I resorted to wedging a chair under my door handle that night. There were a lot of workmen staying there but you can’t get breakfast until 730 This was no good to me or them as we had to leave for work before When I asked for the coat of breakfast to be refunded basically got told no !! I can honestly say this is by far the worst hotel I have ever experienced and would urge everyone not to stay here ever

Made to feel very welcome for our one night dinner b&b stay. Food very good. Radiator not working in room so after dinner we were moved to another room, and with a view this time, which was lovely to see in the morning. Our bathroom needed a good clean - including toilet but didn’t notice until getting ready for bed so didn’t want to say anything by that time. We decided not to shower. I’m sure the polite staff would have apologised profusely, but we were leaving straight after breakfast. Hotel generally quite tired but great for a basic stop over.

Service excellent as was the food., cooked perfectly. I had the duck yummy. Don't go by appearance this place was a .10/10. TV four in a bed would find fault but in the important things this place is spot on and used by locals that's recommendation enough.

If you are looking for a budget hotel then the Moorland will suit you fine. The staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you. The rooms are a little dated but the setting is fabulous with Dartmoor on your doorstep and Plymouth not far away. The prices reflect the budget hotel industry and are very good. Food good, breakfast excellent :)

This is not the first time I’ve been to the hotel and will definitely go back again. It is a very comfortable hotel and the staff are very helpful and friendly the rooms are adequately clean but a little dated. On the night that I arrived I had my family over (a party of 7 including two young children) to have an evening meal and the reviews about the food that they had were extremely good then in the morning I had an very good breakfast with everything cooked just as I would like it.
