It’s such a shame but we will not be going back. We went with friends on a Sunday afternoon as soon as we arrived you could tell it was a neglected place. I think the cleaner was on holiday as the floor was covered in bits of chips and crisps from days before. We ordered a selection of food, cheesy chips a curry and a gammon. The chips were half cooked with a sprinkle of cheese and at £5.50 very over priced and slow service. The chicken curry was dry and didn’t look nice pleasantly the gammon was ok. I always judge good places by the cleanliness of toilets and gas I gone before our food I would have run for the hills as I can honestly say these are the worst toilets I have been to in a very long time . Extremely dirty cob webs everywhere I actually don’t think they had been cleaned in months ! It’s such a shame as this pub/hotel is in a great place and could be a lovely place with some care and attention to detail. Also not a good look when the bar person stands behind the bar vaping !

Came in for a drink, ended up staying for Sunday Lunch. Came out with mash roasties and two large Yorkshire on plate with 4 slices of the softest tastiest beef . Followed by veg dishes each with four perfectly cooked veg. Gravy was apparantly made with gravy left over from the chefs homemade steak n ale pies. It was very nice. Seemed far too quiet for the food landing on the tables. Pub is however very tired, carpet (ouch). but they have signs up apologising for decorations underway.

Called in as its near Barbican. Didn't realise it has rooms, will have to try . Because this is one lovely local Games on tables, played pool and darts, not sure about the beer as I only drink guiness but that was spot on. I noticed they even had a slooshy machine and offering a pint plus a double Vodka for £7 but Im driving.and going to see a show.1 Okay its a bit dated ie decor - I ordered the homemade steak n ale pie . Wasn't disappointed what a pie it nearly filled the plate. That pie was stuffed with beef . Shame pub was pretty quiet. Anyhows of to Barbican to watch what I came for .

The price was reasonable for York at Christmas (£110 without breakfast). The location is great - easy access to the city. The pub itself is nice and cosy. However, the landing around the room smelled of cat urine or something and there was just an unpleasant lingering smell in the room. The landing needed a good vacuum which didn't bode well. The room itself was clean but the bathroom mirror had toothpaste splashes on it and the shower needed a wipe down so we didn't use it. The bed wasn't comfortable and the pillows and quilt need replacing. It is what it is, this place. Other places were charging double for a night near York at Christmas.

Really bad Guinness but good music and games. Seems popular with students ( don’t mind this ). Really disappointed at the Guinness. It was well off and single pour is a major red flag. The little things matter. Such as shame as our local and wanted it to be great.

The radiator in our room did not turn off and it was blasting out heat night and day. The room was like a sauna and the heat kept me awake all night. We addressed it with the landlord who said he is waiting for a part to repair the boiler. He said we should open the window. Our room was directly over the bar, and next to a busy junction. To avoid suffocating in our room and having the window open all night, meant we had traffic noise continuously, and loud karaoke from the bar. Sleep deprived is an understatement! We bought ear plugs and they helped a little. This is room 3.
