Alcuin Lodge

This was the seventh and last time I brought my American undergraduates to the Alcuin Lodge before I retired and returned to live in the UK. It was absolutely lovely as always despite the then very necessary COVID restrictions. My students loved the comfort of the rooms, the warm friendliness of Darren and Mark and especially of course the first-class breakfasts. So, on behalf of the James Madison University North of England Programme, thank you, Darren and Mark, for your kindness, your consummate professionalism and your superb hospitality.

I sent an enquiry to the Alcuin Lodge about availability. I got a very pleasant email from Darren explaining that they have some renovation work planned for the time of our visit, and could not commit to bookings in that time frame. I appreciated the quick turnaround and the kind tenor of the note.

What an Immaculately presented B and B Alcuin Lodge Is, an absolute Gem ! Fantastic Welcome upon arrival with every whim catered for, an ideal location for exploring the glorious city of York. Many thanks Darren we can’t wait to Return.

From first arriving we found Darren, the host/owner, to be ever so friendly and helpful in every aspect. The premises were spotlessly clean and very well decorated, every room that we entered was neat and extremely tidy. Breakfast was served at a time convenient to us, and it was left to us to order in advance exactly what we wanted - the choice was quite varied. As to the meal itself, it was beautifully cooked and very well presented, exactly to our taste. The Lodge itself was ideally located, merely a 5-10minute walk into the city centre. The car was parked directly below our bedroom, in what was a relatively safe place. It was a wonderful place to stay, and we will certainly be returning again in future.

We spent 2 nights at Alcuin Lodge which is a beautiful appointed guest house so close to the heart of York. It's also a very easy walk to the train station. Spotlessly clean, great breakfasts, helpful advice from Darren and an excellent base to explore this historic city. Even though you're so close to the action, we found it super quiet at night too. Highly recommend.
