Golden Sun Resort - Adults Only

Please take no notice of other reviews which said bad things about this hotel, just got back from a great week in this hotel in Kalimaki , we were looked after from entering the reception taken to apartment which had a nice garden view , good food variety for all meals always something for everybody, staff very friendly hotel bar staff excellent shout out to John, Emiliano, Dennis, pool bar great shout out to Dennis and his workmates forgot his name, allround had a excellent week in this great resort

Back a week ago from Zante where we stayed at The Golden Sun Hotel. What a lovely clean place, the rooms, restaurant and pool and facilities are spotless, the gardens are very well looked after and beautiful. We were all inclusive which was great, food was ok a bit samey but to be expected. My mum is Gluten free so sometimes she found it ok some nights better than others but a decent selection. The room we had was spacious and overlooked the garden which was nice, the shower was brilliant tho we had the bathroom sink in the room outside the bathroom which was weird but we got used to it. The planes are very close to the airport so you saw them fly over head closely but it wasn't annoying. The pool is definitely not the coldest I've been in which was great but refreshing and is def needed it's very clean and I enjoyed it. The staff are lovely and very welcoming. They are one of the reasons we would go back. Nothing was ever to much. I do think they may need a few more sun loungers as they were all taken for at breakfast but the beach is a 5 min walk down the road so all good. While I was there for I noticed a wee black cat that had a wee kitten so I fed it everyday, there are a few cats about as an animal and nature lover it was the least I could do. There's plenty of nature around the area. We would def return to Kalamaki and to The Golden Sun

Before staying at this hotel I read some really bad reviews particularly focused on the food and was a bit concerned. But upon arriving my concerns were blown out of the window. We've had the most amazing stay. Staff are incredibly polite and helpful. The rooms and whole place in general is spotless. The pool area is clean and well maintained and the food is wonderful. The beach is literally 5 minutes down the road, a couple of restaurants less than 5 minutes in the other direction. And within a 15 minute walk there are supermarkets, gift shops and plenty more restaurants and bars.I do intend to come back to this hotel, location, staff and comfort was 10/10

We really enjoyed this hotel. It was absolutely spotless and the staff work really hard to keep it that way. The rooms are nice and comfortable and cleaned daily - yes the sink is in the hallway which is weird but no big deal. The pool area is really nice and relaxing and there are plenty of sunbeds - if you want an umbrella you are best to get down there by about 8am otherwise not a problem. We went to the entertainment on Friday night which was really good fun. The only thing that was a bit hit and miss was the food, but no way near as bad as some of the comments on here say. We always found something to eat and it was always hot. The ***** of Kalamaki is a 10/15 minute walk away where you will find lots of bars and restaurants (we loved the Rose and Crown pub, lovely atmosphere and one of the few places where the wine is nice). Beach nearby is a bit disappointing as most of it is made up of private beaches for hotels but the sea is warm and we prefer the pool anyway. All in all a lovely holiday.

We had a quick check in and taken to our room, our luggage was brought up by the porter. Our room was on the corner of the top floor overlooking the pool. The room was a decent size with a big comfortable bed, tv, aircon, small iron, kettle, fridge and a free safety box. Plenty of hanging space for clothes although the hangers were not suitable for hanging trousers, also there was a lack of drawers. Also in the room was a sink which could easily have been installed in the shower room. The shower room had a large walk in shower and toilet with some free toiletries provided. The balcony was quite large as it was a corner room and the view overlooking the pool was great, only got the sun in the early morning though. The cleaner did a great job keeping everything spotless and leaving clean towels everyday, she is an asset to the hotel. The pool was cleaned everyday and the surrounding areas were cleaned on a regular basis throughout the day as well. The pool bar was self service except if you wanted spirits and snack food, these were served by 2 bartenders. There were quite a lot of wasps around the soft drink dispenser. All drinks at the pool bar were in soft flimsy plastic "glasses", we took our own hard ones to use. The hotel bar served drinks in proper glasses only if you sat inside, if you sat outside on the terrace areas you were given hard plastic. Again here there is a self service area but soft plastic "glasses" were in use. The bartender did a great job of serving all night given that he worked on his own all and every night, the young guy clearing and cleaning the tables was cheerful and talked to the guests and kept the terrace areas clean and tidy. The drinks are the big problem with this hotel, they are a very poor quality, the beer is ok but, all the wines are undrinkable, the soft drinks are like drinking pure sugar and when you get a spirit with a mixer it's only the mixer you can taste. The drinks were that bad that many guests went out for the evening and other guests were buying soft drinks and wine from the supermarket and drinking them instead. The terrace areas were quite small for the size of the hotel and although there is a smoking and non smoking terrace, non smokers were sitting in the smoking terrace and then complaining about the smoke. In the restaurant you were greeted by the head chef every meal time and he continually checked the temperature of the food and made sure all the food trays were constantly refilled. We thought the food was mostly hot and although the choices were somewhat limited, we always found something to eat. Only negatives were soup which we really enjoyed was the same at lunchtime and evening meals, the Gyros had very little meat in them and a bigger choice of vegetables and desserts would improve the meals. Breakfasts were nice, a bit repetitive as were the evening meals, but the meals were far better than a lot of reviews were saying. Entertainment is twice a week, surely this can be increased,

Having read various reviews, I have just returned home. Can't praise hotel enough. The staff all went that extra mile to make you welcome. The pool is a good size with a jacuzzi by the side of it..food was varied and an excellent selection (salad was amazing) cleaning staff deserved a medal. Maybe one gripe was the rooms were a bit tight. Also a 2 minute walk to beach An extra bonus was going through airport in half hour both ways
