An update as I was here a year ago. I was in a different room this year and it was a better shape for two people but not as pretty as last year’s. There was a table and chairs and room to spread out. The bathroom could do with updating, especially the bath and shower but everything was clean. The small bottle of water in the room is still in a plastic bottle. There are three charging points in the room. The walls in the room are thin so care is needed to not disturb or be disturbed by neighbours. I travel with earplugs. My room looked over the car park and ramparts and the corner of some apartments but it’s not too noisy. There’s a lounge on the first floor with water, coffee and pastries as well as a lounge and gift shop on the ground floor. The hotel is close to Plaza Mayor with shops and restaurants.

From the moment I entered reception I got this awful smell of cleaning fluids which I think had been used to cover the other awful smell we experienced in our room. You could taste the horrible smells in your mouth. They were so strong. The hotel is just outside the walls in what seems a very rough area. There was screaming in the street from 4 oclock in the morning, and we saw a physical fight in the apartment across from the hotel which then moved down into the street and one person was chasing another and hitting him with an iron bar. Obviously this is not the hotels fault but it was very disturbing and we didn’t get any sleep. On the plus side everything was very clean but the smell in the place made me feel sick.

Good location, only minutes to walk into the old town. The hotel was very nice with excellent attention to detail. The bedroom and breakfast room was charming. There was a good choice of food at breakfast and the tv room housed tea/coffee making facilities, with pastries and biscuits. No hesitation in recommending this hotel

The hotel bedroom was very nicely decorated, although if I had to share the bed it would have been a little cramped as the room was quite narrow. The bathroom was small but perfectly formed. There is a plastic bottle of water per person in the room. No tea or coffee maker in the room but there is an upstairs snack room where you can help yourself to hot and cold drinks as well as pastries throughout the day. I have heard of lodgers using kettles to cook soup or milk in some establishments which damages kettles and is a safety concern so that’s a good idea. The staff were very helpful during my stay with directions and restaurant recommendations. I’d say the main Plaza is a little more than 8 minutes away as some reviewers mentioned, more like 10 minutes if you don’t know your way around. Breakfast was nice and I found the choice adequate. There’s a supermarket just around the corner which is very handy. It’s also twenty minutes from the railway station on foot. There are lots of monuments and churches in Zamora and nature trails too.

About a month ago, my wife and I spent several day at this hotel, It was a wonderful experience, perhaps the best lodging place of our 21 day journey in Spain. Our room was charming and of a good size, everything was very modern and functional, and the service we received could not have been better. The location is perfect, just a few blocks away from Plaza Mayor, and within walking distance of many site. The breakfast room and buffet were particularly good. All ingredients were high quality, and the setting was elegant and high class. We were particularly pleased with the help the staff gave us by lending us an ice bucket and wine glasses to enjoy a glass of wine in the evenings. Their eating recommendations were right on. We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Zamora. It is difficult to imagine anyone could find better accommodations.

Zamora is said to be a city that grows on the visitor (it's true) and this may also be said to apply to the Ares hotel, just outside the old city wall. At first maybe a little baffling with its automatic check-in system (read the instructions carefully), the brightly decorated hotel turns out to have several agreeable surprises in store, culminating in an excellent breakfast included in the room rate, which is something of a rarity in Spain. There's a limited number of parking spots in the nearby lock-up garage, otherwise in the street. Very friendly and helpful staff and an integrated store selling tasteful local artisan products round it all off.

We stayed only for one night but we found a bathrobe, sweets, biscuits and complementary mineral water in our room. Breakfast service is amazingly well served, spoiled by choice and overlooking the city Wall. On the main floor a gorgeous shop where to find the same mugs, blankets, covers and tapestry used in the hotel

Lovely hotel well situated and within easy walking distance to Plaza Mayor. The staff especially those on reception were very friendly and helpful. Our room was furnished to a high standard, as was all of the hotel. No tea making facilities in our room but we had air con. There was a shower over the bath but the only way to fill the bath was by using the shower. There was no controls to fill the bath directly. Secure parking is available.
