#northernlights This 3-day itinerary focuses on maximizing your chance to see the spectacular Aurora Borealis near Edmonton, primarily during the peak viewing season (October to early April). Day one begins by arriving in Edmonton and checking the AuroraWatch forecast for geomagnetic activity. In the late evening, drive just east of the city to Elk Island National Park, a designated Dark Sky Preserve, to escape light pollution. Bundle up with warm clothes and a thermos of hot cocoa as you wait for the magic to unfold overhead—the best viewing window is often between 10 PM and 3 AM. On day two, recover with a daytime visit to the Royal Alberta Museum or explore the shops and cafés of Old Strathcona. For your second night of aurora hunting, head northeast to Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park, another established dark sky hotspot outside of Lac La Biche. Consider booking an aurora tour here that might include other winter activities like snowshoeing or ice fishing while you wait. Day three is a final chance for the lights. Enjoy a leisurely Edmonton morning, then monitor the forecast for a strong solar storm event. If the lights are active, head to a locally known in-city viewpoint like the Saskatchewan Drive Outlook for a final, breathtaking glimpse of the dancing green and purple skies before concluding your trip. #Edmonton #NorthernLights #AuroraBorealis #ExploreAlberta #DarkSkyPreserve #ElkIsland #TravelCanada #WinterWonderland #NightSky #AuroraQuest

In the heart of the Canadian Prairies stands a fairy-tale castle seemingly transported from Europe—the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. Since opening in 1915, it has witnessed Edmonton’s prosperous transformation from an "oil town" to the "Gateway to the North." 🏰 Castle-style architecture, reminiscent of old English manors 🌲 The hotel garden overlooks the Saskatchewan River Valley, a picturesque scene in every season 🎶 The sound of piano music echoes in the lobby, evoking the elegance of the early 20th century 💫 The Romance of History Named after the French explorer Macdonald, this Fairmont hotel is Edmonton’s most iconic landmark. A century ago, it hosted nobles, politicians, and artists; a century later, it remains the city’s "living room." The red brick and stone exterior, steep rooflines, and English manor style quietly tell the story of the city’s evolution. Here, it’s not just a place to stay, but a step into the city’s history. Sitting on the terrace reading a book, time suddenly slows down. The natural scenery weaves more than just moments of a journey— it feels like an encounter between art and life. Whether it’s the romance of the winter aurora or the passion of the summer music festival, Macdonald is the best starting point to understand Edmonton💓

↓As the city of art, Edmonton doesn't feel like a major oil town in western Canada, or the capital of Alberta. The modern new city and the retro old city collide to create a unique charm. It is a city that can be both dynamic and quiet, with a natural environment that makes it very livable. Every summer, a cowboy festival is held here, where tourists from all over the world dress in cowboy costumes and celebrate with endless beer and food! Edmonton is the capital of Alberta and is known as one of the sunniest places in the world. It has a continental climate, with cold, dry winters and cool summers, long hours of sunshine, and large temperature differences between day and night. It is like a second- or third-tier city, not very prosperous, with few entertainment facilities, but with the lowest shopping tax, relatively cheap housing prices, a well-developed and regulated used car market, and excellent air quality, making it a great place to live. What impressed me most was that even when it rained, it stopped after 1-2 hours. In June and July, the sun rises before 5 am, and the night comes late, with the sun setting around 11 pm, making it feel like life is a bonus.

#auroralight Edmonton, Alberta, is an underrated hotspot for witnessing the northern lights, offering a front-row seat to one of nature’s most mesmerizing displays. Thanks to its northern latitude and frequent clear skies in the fall and winter months, the aurora borealis often graces the city’s skies with its magical dance of greens, purples, and pinks. To catch the aurora in Edmonton, you’ll need a dark-sky location away from the glow of streetlights. A top choice is Elk Island National Park, just 35 minutes from downtown. As part of a Dark Sky Preserve, the park offers unobstructed views of the night sky. Bring a blanket, bundle up, and settle in for a dazzling show reflecting off the park’s frozen lakes and snow-covered fields in winter. If you prefer staying closer to the city, Rundle Park and Hermitage Park are quieter urban spots where you can escape much of the city light pollution. For the best experience, check aurora forecasts online or use apps that track geomagnetic activity, and plan your outing for clear, moonless nights. Seeing the auroras requires patience, but it’s worth the wait. Whether the lights swirl dramatically across the entire sky or shimmer subtly along the horizon, the experience is unforgettable. Aurora hunting in Edmonton combines the thrill of chasing something elusive with the reward of witnessing one of nature’s most extraordinary phenomena—right in the heart of Alberta’s capital.

(This is the 1745th original travel photography post published in 1013 cities across 57 countries/regions on 5 continents) Where is the largest indoor shopping mall in North America? It is not in New York, nor in Toronto, but in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta, Canada. West Edmonton Mall is currently the number one in North America and the fifth largest shopping mall in the world. It is a must-visit place for tourists visiting Edmonton. The mall is super large, with top luxury stores from around the world, offering a wide variety of products, making it a paradise for fashionistas. It is not just a shopping mall. Edmonton’s Old Strathcona Farmer’s market is located on Whyte Avenue and is open only on Saturdays (8:00-15:00). The exterior of the market is built with red bricks, which is very distinctive. There are many stalls in the market selling home-grown agricultural products and handicrafts. It is worth a visit on weekends! There is a truck selling popcorn and marshmallows outside the market. I recommend their Sweet and Salty Popcorn! #Edmonton #Old Strathcona Farmer Market

Twenty years after graduation, I revisited my hometown and spent a week in Edmonton, Canada. During my visit, I made sure to visit West Edmonton Hall, which has shops, an ice rink, a theater, amusement rides, a hotel, T&T supermarket, bowling courts, a water park, and everything you can think of for food, drink, and fun. I had fun there for a whole day, and I hope I’ll have the chance to come back again in the near future! #Canada #Edmonton #West Edmonton Mall #Eminton #Alberta #Shopping #Casino #waterpark

Edmonton is Alberta's capital city and is often known to be a boring town. However, if you look a bit further, the city has plenty to offer. Most importantly the city offers great outdoors fun. The Edmonton River Valley is a great place to walk along the river and get sweeping views of the city, this all being 5 mins from the city center. Have a look around downtown and it's skyline. Also make a stop at the Alberta Legislative Building, which does have a more rustic feel to it as it's mostly in stone. Moving across the river you'll come across the Old Strathcona district which is a hipper and trendier side of Edmonton which you'll find restaurants and shops. Overall, Edmonton is not a huge city but still has some nice sights to visit. You'll not only be greeted by not only a city but also nature and friendly people. It's also easy to get around with the tram system! #travel #explore #city #edmonton #alberta #canada

Sunrise near Edmonton, Canada. Canada is such a large country it is very hard to visit it in just a few days. But Edmonton and Calgary are worth the trip. Both are lovely and the people are so nice. Tim Hortons coffee is our new favorite. #happynewyear #happynewyear

After spending two days in Edmonton, a simple and quiet little city, I came to know that it is the fifth largest city in Canada and the capital of Alberta. There are more than 600 bisons in the Elk Island National Park near Edmonton, but it is a pity at noon. Only one is swaying at the door. We all suspect that the staff squirrel is not rare, but the eyes are white. Squirrel have you seen it! The last hour of kayaking, the first time I tried a single person, it was a bit swaying. Back to the city in the afternoon, the balance car experience is quite cool, you can consider a contemporary step tool.

Every year's silver skate Festival turns hallaleck Park in Edmonton into a magical ice park. In the West Edmonton shopping center, there are also the world's largest indoor amusement park and the largest indoor wave pool. It's snowy outside and you can still enjoy surfing in summer
