#localdiscoveries Manama surprised me with how many different sides it has. 🇧🇭 From beautiful mosques and historic forts to stylish cafés and relaxing walks along the bay, every part of the city offered something different. I loved exploring without rushing and discovering the contrast between Bahrain’s rich history and its modern side. Sometimes, the best travel experiences come from simply wandering and seeing where the city takes you. ✨ Have you ever visited a destination that surprised you like this? 💡 Tip: Take your time exploring Manama—the contrast between old and new is part of the charm. 📍 Manama, Bahrain #manamatravel #bahrain #middleeasttravel #cityexploration

The second stop of the Middle East cruise is Bahrain. For this country, I think I only heard about it during the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup one year. After getting off the ship, the two of us took an Uber at the port and went straight to the Al-Fateh Grand Mosque. It is located in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, built in 1987, named after Bahrain’s founder Ahmed Al-Fateh. It is the largest and most iconic mosque in Bahrain. Architectural Highlights: It features the world’s largest fiberglass dome (weighing about 60 tons and approximately 35 meters in diameter). Natural light filters through the dome along with Iranian stained glass into the main prayer hall; the floor is paved with Italian marble, Austrian crystal chandeliers hang high, and the main door is intricately carved from Indian teakwood, combining craftsmanship from multiple countries. Scale: Covering an area of 6,500 square meters, it can accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at the same time. Inside and outside, there are also Islamic daily life experiences. Visiting Tips: Non-Muslims are allowed to enter (usually closed to tourists on Fridays). Women need to borrow a black robe and cover their heads, and men must cover their shoulders and knees. Additionally, there is a staff member inside the mosque who speaks Chinese and is quite friendly.

#localrules If you’re visiting Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Center, Bahrain’s largest mosque, don’t miss it! It can accommodate up to 7,000 worshippers and is famous for its massive fiberglass dome, beautiful marble interiors, and free guided tours for visitors. The good news? Photography is allowed! 📸 There are even a few designated photo spots inside, making it easy to capture beautiful memories while respecting the space. One important local rule is the dress code. Make sure to wear clothing that covers your shoulders and legs, and women are required to cover their hair. If you don’t have appropriate clothing, don’t worry—traditional abayas and headscarves are available to borrow at the entrance. I brought my own large scarf and wrapped it around my head. It felt much more comfortable using my own, so I’d definitely recommend packing one if you plan to visit mosques during your trip. Have you ever visited a mosque while traveling? 🕌✨ #Bahrain #MiddleEast #TravelTips

In Bahrain, Manama is a place worth visiting. Located at the southern end of the Persian Gulf, it is the capital and main port of Bahrain. It is a coastal city with numerous hotels, shopping centers, and iconic buildings. The city's beaches are among the most popular in the region. It is considered one of the best leisure spots in the area. Additionally, Manama has many attractions worth exploring, including the waterfront park and museums. This city offers a perfect environment to relax and enjoy life.

#slowtraveling There’s something special about starting the day without having to rush anywhere. During my stay in Manama, I ordered room service and enjoyed a quiet breakfast right in my room. A plate of fluffy pancakes topped with fresh berries, a few sauces to choose from, and a warm cup of tea—simple, but exactly what I wanted that morning. With the sunlight streaming through the window, I could take my time, enjoy the view, and simply relax in the comfort of my room. No crowded breakfast restaurant, no schedule to keep—just a slow morning, good food, and a little time for myself. Sometimes, the best way to start exploring a new city is to take it slow first. ✨ 📍 Manama, Bahrain

Bahrain feels like a place meant for slow walks and quiet discoveries.
🌊 Start with a stroll along the Bund — sea breeze, soft light, and that peaceful rhythm of a city by the water. 🧺 Wander into the local market, where everyday life unfolds naturally. Spices, small shops, and the perfect excuse to try local sweets — rich, fragrant, and deeply traditional. 🏰 Then step back in time at Qal’at al-Bahrain, the ancient fort and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Stone walls, layered history, and wide coastal views where centuries quietly overlap. A destination for moments, not rush — where history, sea, and everyday life meet. #Bahrain

【Journey Through the Five Middle Eastern Countries: Manama, Bahrain—At the Bahrain National Museum, Encountering Six Thousand Years of Timeless Stories】 On the afternoon of December 12, 2025, the sunlight lazily poured over the streets of Manama, the capital of Bahrain, draping this city full of exotic charm in a golden veil. I, a traveler obsessed with history and never ceasing to explore, carrying reverence and curiosity for ancient civilizations, stepped through the doors of the Bahrain National Museum, embarking on a journey across six thousand years of time. First Encounter: The Grand Prelude of the Hall of History The Bahrain National Museum, one of the largest and oldest museums in Bahrain, stands quietly like a silent and wise elder near King Faisal Highway. Established in December 1988, it has witnessed the historical changes of Bahrain through the passage of time. The museum complex covers 27,800 square meters and is cleverly composed of two buildings. Its exterior is simple yet solemn, as if telling every visitor the profound history it carries. As I slowly approached the museum, the ancient door seemed like a gateway through time. Gently pushing it open, I stepped into a completely different world. The interior was spacious and bright, with soft lighting casting a glow on every exhibit, as if breathing life into them. I took a deep breath; the air was filled with a faint scent of history, a unique charm distilled by the years, instantly immersing me. Exploration: A Journey Through Time and Civilization Walking slowly along the exhibition halls, I felt as if I had traveled through a tunnel of time back to the Stone Age. The rough and primitive stone tools lay quietly in display cases, bearing witness to the earliest civilization of Bahrain. Though simple, these tools embodied the wisdom and hard work of ancient Bahrainis, their reliance for survival and reproduction on this land. I could almost see them holding stone tools, hunting and gathering across the vast land, fiercely struggling against nature. Moving forward, I arrived at the Dilmun ancient civilization relics exhibition area. Here was displayed the Dilmun golden scepter, unearthed from the Bahrain Trade Port archaeological site, a representative artifact of the Dilmun civilization (circa 3000 BC). The gold on the scepter shone with a captivating light, as if telling the story of the prosperous trade and exquisite craftsmanship of the ancient Persian Gulf region. I gazed quietly at it, imagining the busy merchants at the port, sailing between harbors, exporting Bahrain’s specialties overseas, and bringing back rare treasures from around the world. Continuing ahead, the pre-industrial era household utensils exhibition area appeared before me. Various daily items were displayed, from simple pottery jars to exquisite bronze vessels, each showcasing the lifestyle of ancient Bahrainis. I could almost hear their laughter and chatter as they gathered together; smell the aroma of food cooking. These seemingly ordinary utensils contained their love for life and pursuit of beauty. The natural history specimen exhibition area was like a miniature world, displaying Bahrain’s rich natural resources and biodiversity. The lifelike animal and plant specimens made me feel as if I were immersed in Bahrain’s natural environment, experiencing the wonder and beauty of nature. I marveled at the various creatures that once lived on this land, forming Bahrain’s unique ecosystem alongside humans. The 13th-14th century Quran manuscript exhibition area made me feel the solemnity and sanctity of religious culture. The ancient script seemed to carry a mysterious power, crossing time and space to convey the strength of faith. I stood quietly before the display case, silently reading the words, a wave of reverence rising in my heart. Highlights: The Wonderful Fusion of Archaeology and Scenes The museum’s special exhibition areas truly amazed me. Three archaeological themed halls were like three mysterious treasure troves, displaying native flora and fauna specimens and various archaeological discoveries. Wandering among them, I felt like an archaeologist, carefully observing each exhibit, trying to unravel the historical mysteries behind them. The ancient history exhibition area recreated desert tombs and scenes from the Epic of Gilgamesh, making me feel as if I were in that distant era. The authentic ancient tomb relics were relocated here from desert sites, lying quietly in the hall, telling the story of ancient Bahrainis’ burial culture and beliefs. I gently stepped into the tomb, sensing the mysterious atmosphere, as if witnessing the solemn funeral rites of ancient Bahrainis. The Gilgamesh epic scene reconstruction transported me to a fantastical world. The exquisite murals and sculptures vividly depicted the epic’s storylines. I could almost see the brave and fearless figure of Gilgamesh, showing human courage and wisdom as he battled monsters and hardships. Through artifacts, images, and scene reconstructions, the museum systematically presents Bahrain’s civilization from prehistoric settlements to the modern oil industry. I felt as if I were aboard a time ship, sailing through Bahrain’s long history, witnessing its glorious journey from a small settlement to a modern oil industrial nation. The Museum’s Treasure: The Legendary Charm of the Bronze Bull’s Head Among the many exhibits, the museum’s treasure—the bronze bull’s head—was undoubtedly the most eye-catching. It stood quietly in the center of the hall like a majestic king, overlooking the entire museum. The bronze bull’s head was lifelike, with smooth lines and every detail perfectly crafted. Its eyes were bright and piercing, as if gazing into the distance, revealing a mysterious power. I slowly circled the bronze bull’s head, carefully admiring every part. Its horns were thick and powerful, seemingly able to lift any heavy object; its ears slightly perked, as if listening to the surrounding sounds. I could almost feel the exquisite craftsmanship and painstaking effort of ancient Bahrainis who made the bronze bull’s head. They infused their worship of bulls and love of life into this work, making the bronze bull’s head one of the symbols of Bahraini civilization. Farewell: Setting Off Again with Historical Memories As the sunset’s afterglow bathed the museum’s roof, I knew my journey through time was coming to an end. With reluctance, I slowly walked out the museum’s doors. Looking back, the magnificent building appeared even more solemn and mysterious under the sunset’s glow. This visit to the Bahrain National Museum was richly rewarding. I not only learned about Bahrain’s six thousand years of civilization, felt the wisdom and creativity of ancient Bahrainis, but also experienced the unique culture and charm of the Gulf region. This place is like a thick history book, each page filled with stories waiting to be read and interpreted. Friends, if you are interested in history and culture, why not take a walk and a look at the Bahrain National Museum? Here, you will travel through time and space, having a dialogue across millennia with ancient Bahrainis; here, you will feel the charm of history and appreciate the brilliance of civilization. Let us together start a time journey of our own at the Bahrain National Museum!

That’s right, this country is Bahrain. Before coming to Bahrain, I knew nothing about it. The travel guides I found described it only as the "Backyard of the Middle East" and the "Pearl of the Persian Gulf," with little else to say. But after setting foot in Bahrain, I unexpectedly found it more interesting than I imagined. Compared to the conservatism of Saudi Arabia, just across the bridge, Bahrain is more secular and chill for travelers. ▫️ 🚗 Transportation: We crossed into Bahrain by land from Dammam. You can choose between a bus or a private car. The bus tickets are purchased and boarded at Dammam International Bus Station. There are two buses to Bahrain daily, at 8 AM and 5 PM, costing 145 SAR round trip. The trip from Dammam station to Manama bus station takes about 2 hours. 🎫 Visa: Bahrain offers visa on arrival. For land crossing, just pay 5 Bahraini Dinars at the window. 💰 Currency: The Bahraini Dinar is one of the highest-valued currencies, similar to the Omani Rial, both around 1:19 exchange rate. 🌞 Climate: Similar to Saudi Arabia, it’s very hot before October. Traveling between November and February is much more comfortable. ▫️ 1⃣️ Bahrain Gate & Old Market: The landmark of Manama. The market is full of souvenirs. There’s a café called Haji’s Café, which is said to be a must-visit in Bahrain. We had dinner there and it was good. 2⃣️ Bahrain Fort: A historical site currently under renovation, so you can’t go inside, but you can stroll around outside. 3⃣️ Al-Fateh Grand Mosque: Said to have the largest dome in the Middle East. It’s recommended to avoid visiting during local prayer times, as entry is not allowed then. 4⃣️ Bahrain National Museum: The museum has many exhibits and an art gallery. Located by the port, you can enjoy views of the harbor here. 5⃣️ Pearl Diving Museum: Bahrain prospered because of pearls. The museum itself has few exhibits, but its location by the Persian Gulf is the highlight. The boardwalk and beach outside are my personal hidden gems in Bahrain. 6⃣️ Manama Viewpoint: From here, you can see Bahrain’s landmark—the World Trade Center, which is also the world’s first building equipped with wind turbines. 7⃣️ The Avenue: A fairly large mall that’s great for shopping, with various clothing, cosmetics, and food options. 8⃣️ Corniche: The seaside promenade outside The Avenue. Walking along it offers distant views of Manama’s various landmark buildings. 9⃣️ Block 338: Here you’ll find the “I love Manama” sculpture. It’s also a well-known food district in Bahrain.

Bahrain National Museum There aren't many places to visit in Bahrain, but this is a must-see if you want to get a closer look at the country's culture and traditions. The museum features exhibits ranging from ancient archaeological finds to modern times. There are many installations, but the museum itself is not very large, making it easy to visit in just a couple of hours and immerse yourself in the local culture, lifestyle, and charm. The exhibits with bones were particularly impressive, offering detailed insights into human anatomy. In front of the museum, there are interesting sculptures, and around the building, you'll find great spots for Instagram-worthy photos. Nearby, there's a theater building, and within walking distance, there are two hotels, making it very convenient if you're staying in the area. Highly recommended for those interested in local culture and traditions, as well as fans of archaeology and ancient artifacts.
