I have always been fascinated by this hotel since they first opened. It is located in ex-mining area. Lobby is at the top-most floor and all the guests room are “underground”, with one more floor underwater. Went there for a special collaboration between Intercontinental Hotel and BYMB for a yoga & meditation getaway and my favorite part is the last sound-healing meditation “underwater”. 🐟 It was Sunday and the hotel was packed!! We only managed to get a room by 4:30PM (regular check-in starts from 12:00). The room was standard. Breakfast was amazing. However the gym and swimming pool were underwhelming (definitely not the type of swimming pool you’d like for a sports-swim). Other than that, glad that I finally able to visit this hotel! I was sceptical when my partner first suggested spending a weekend at the Shanghai Wonderland hotel in Songjiang as our destination and main weekend attraction. However, I was wrong, the hotel has so much to offer. The hotel is built in an old quarry and every room has excellent views of it. The room price is one of the most expensive in shanghai with a cheap room rate costing about 3000rmb, however, it is worth it. You will want to spend half a day just exploring the hotel and taking photos. It is an engineering marvel. There is also a great indoor swimming pool. We paid for a buffet lunch and sat on the restaurant balcony. The food was excellent with one of the best lasagnes I have ever tasted. In the evening there was a light show in the quarry which was visible from the hotel rooms. We had a lot of fun in the weekend and didn’t feel the need to leave the hotel all weekend.

This time I chose the hotel package, which included tickets to the four museums of Guangfulin Cultural Park. We came to the Shenkeng Hotel which we had been eyeing for a long time. It was not well maintained, but it was still clean. Soon after we put down our luggage, we took a bus to Zhujiajiao. The journey took about 25 minutes and the fare was about 40 RMB. When we arrived at Zhujiajiao, we chose a restaurant by the river. Sitting on the second floor of the restaurant, we overlooked the riverside scenery, enjoyed farm dishes, and felt the leisurely and comfortable ancient town style. After dinner, we strolled along the river and walked through the corners of the town. I felt like I was dreaming of returning to ancient times. Then we returned to the hotel at night to enjoy the highlight of our stay, the laser and drone show. My children and husband had a blast watching it. We ordered takeout and enjoyed the show on the terrace while eating the food my children loved. It was such a blessing. The next day, we visited the Guangfulin Cultural Heritage Park. The government spent 20 billion RMB and ten years to build this park. The surface area is very large, with rapeseed fields and small farms in the middle. We spent ten RMB to buy feed for the sika deer and goats, which was cheap and fun. Then, we visited the Guangfulin Museum under the water.
