Taining is a small town in the Northern part of Fujian province, China. It is surrounded by beautiful bamboo forests and lakes. The most popular being the Big Golden Lake. There are plenty of sights to see around the lake, including Baxian cliff, Jinrao mountain and a beautiful natural waterfall. My personal favorite was Ganlu Rock Temple. It is a temple built into the caves of the mountain. The architecture and construction is breathtaking, and people used to live there. Our tour guide believes that the monks still live there today. The temple is situated in the mountain, so be prepared to climb a few steps. The temple and other attractions are not accessible by car, so one needs to take a guided boat tour to get there. The boat departs from the docks in Jiaojiao Fishing Village (10 minute taxi ride from Taining town), and the tour is 3 hours. The boat stops at 3 scenic spots, where you will have plenty of time to explore the sights. Taining is perfect for a leisure weekend filled with history and culture.
