Cambodia isn't as polished as Thailand—and that's exactly what makes it so fascinating. 💡 Interesting fact: Cambodia is home to Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. The temple is so important to the country that it even appears on the Cambodian flag. 🚍 Getting there is easier than you think If you're staying in Pattaya, Cambodia is only a few hours away. Most people cross through the Poipet border, either on an organized tour or independently. The drive usually takes 3–4 hours, depending on traffic and the border crossing. If you're traveling from Bangkok, buses and minivans leave throughout the day. From Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui, flying to Siem Reap (usually via Bangkok) is the most convenient option. 💡 If you're crossing the border on your own, try to leave early in the morning. The queues are usually much shorter. 🛕 Angkor Wat is even more incredible than you imagine We've all seen the photos, but standing in front of Angkor Wat is something completely different. Originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, it later became a Buddhist temple and remains the largest religious monument in the world. Don't stop at Angkor Wat and also visit: 🌿 Ta Prohm — where enormous tree roots seem to swallow the ruins. This is a hotel I've seen on my feed so many times, and this time I finally got to stay at Atta Lakeside Resort 🌳🌧️🏞️! Atta Lakeside Resort @ Khao Yai · The accommodation features a lush atmosphere with lake and mountain views. It feels incredibly refreshing when it rains. The room is massive! The living room is separated from the bedroom, and the bathroom is super spacious with a bathtub. · I stayed in a 1st-floor room with a front patio and a walkway leading out around the lake. It's absolutely perfect for anyone who loves taking in the view! (The view in the photo is from Building 9). · The buffet breakfast offers a huge variety of food. Fried rice, Thai dishes, American breakfast, rice porridge, bread, desserts, fruits, and salads—they have every food station covered. I really enjoyed it! · The hotel has several buildings but still feels quite private. Even with a lot of people, it’s not chaotic at all. The staff are lovely, always smiling, and very helpful. It features powder-white beaches, crystal-clear turquoise water, and a tranquil atmosphere, making it a truly idyllic tropical escape. My group of six visited two months ago, and we were completely captivated by its natural beauty. Days weren’t about rushing between attractions—they were about taking your time. One morning we drifted through the rainforest on a bamboo raft. Another afternoon we wandered the colourful streets of Takua Pa Old Town, stopping for snacks at the Sunday Walking Street Market. We even stumbled upon Tham Thonglang Quarry, a quiet spot with dramatic limestone cliffs and emerald water that felt like a hidden gem. Of course, the Similan Islands lived up to every expectation. The water really is that blue. But what surprised me most wasn’t the beaches. It was discovering SOUL FRIEND & SPIRITUAL GARDEN. Hidden among lush greenery, it’s much more than a café. We spent over an hour there sipping hand-whisked matcha, browsing books and simply enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. It perfectly reflected the slower pace that makes Khao Lak so different from other beach destinations. Even the meals became part of the experience. Fresh seafood at Krachang Restaurant, sunset dinner at Catch & Co., and evenings where there was nowhere else we needed to be. Instead of driving straight back, we spent one last night at Sametnangshe Boutique. Watching the sun rise over Phang Nga Bay was the perfect ending to four unforgettable days. Khao Lak may not have Phuket’s nightlife or crowds, but that’s exactly its charm. It’s a place for slow mornings, island adventures, long lunches and discovering corners of Thailand that still feel wonderfully unhurried. 📍If you’re planning 4–5 days in southern Thailand, don’t just pass through Khao Lak on the way to the Similan Islands.
