I always order this pork rib hot pot when I come to this restaurant, and the key is to pair it with Northeastern-style steamed flatbread. The flatbread needs to be added to the pot early so it soaks up the broth and becomes soft and fragrant. I suggest you eat it this way too, instead of just focusing on gnawing on the ribs.
When we eat stewed goose in an iron pot around here, we only goose stew at Shanhetun. Putting everything else aside, their goose is stewed until it's incredibly tender and flavorful, and the flatbread stuck to the side of the pot is absolutely delicious dipped in the broth. Actually, locals don't go to those fancy restaurants; they just love this kind of down-to-earth flavor.
The lighting is warm, and the wooden tables and chairs look very comfortable, making for photos with a real, down-to-earth feel. Ladies who want to take photos should go early; it's less crowded and the lighting is softer.
