On the second day of the Chinese New Year in 2023, I came to Mengzi. I found out that Xiangqiyuan is one of the best rice noodle restaurants in Honghe Prefecture, so I came to taste it. It was seven o&#39;clock in the evening when I arrived. The rice noodles were sold out, and there were some stewed dishes left. I bought spicy potato strips and stewed liver, but they didn&#39;t taste anything special. I came early on the third day of the Chinese New Year. It was crowded and I had to find a seat by myself. I ordered Caizi Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles and Bubugaosheng Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles. The difference is that the side dishes are slightly different. Bubugaosheng has more walnut buns and a small portion of steamed chicken. The bowl is very large, and the rice noodles are free. Everyone thinks the taste is not amazing, but it&#39;s just okay. After all, there are many delicious cross-bridge rice noodles in Chengdu now.

Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles is in Mengzi. You must try &quot;Hot House&quot; when you go to Mengzi! It is always packed during mealtime. Such a down-to-earth name has made this restaurant popular. You can choose your own ingredients and pickles. The taste is amazing. The soup is very delicious! I have to give it 100 points!

A shop that is very popular with locals. Their breads and pastries are very delicious. The ingredients are very real and the taste is very good. We bought several and ate them along the way. It&#39;s beautiful!

I also had the so-called authentic rice noodles, 38 yuan, and my husband had the ordinary rice noodles for 22 yuan. His was better, and you could choose 10 ingredients yourself, while mine had more, but many of them were not what I liked. Personally, I recommend the 22 yuan one.

When it comes to Mengzi, Yunnan, you probably know more about its cross-bridge rice noodles, right? I thought so too! With boundless anticipation for Mengzi, we embarked on a spontaneous trip. We spent two days exploring Mengzi over the weekend, visiting three villages and savoring the local rice noodles, experiencing a truly unique and relaxing local experience.

✅ Enjoying Mengzi Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles:

We took a train from Kunming this morning and arrived in Mengzi around noon. We checked into the Guanfang Hotel near Nanhu Lake, checked in, and immediately headed to try Mengzi Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles.

Recently good cross-bridge rice noodles in downtown Mengzi include Wu Ji Liu Xiang Chrysanthemum Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles, Nanhu Xiangqi Garden, and Huoshaofangzi Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles. The first one is the best, popular with both locals and tourists. The second one offers a better ambiance and is said to be more popular with tourists. While taking an online taxi in Mengzi, after chatting with the driver, we came to a similar conclusion to what we&#39;d already researched, so we decided to go to the first restaurant to try the cross-bridge rice noodles.

Arriving at &quot;Wu Ji Liu Xiang Ju Hua Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles,&quot; we could see from a distance that long lines were waiting for the noodles. On the way to the restaurant, the taxi driver explained, &quot;They usually only charge 15 yuan for a serving, and suggested we try the 20 yuan option.&quot;

Upon arrival, we ordered the 20 yuan cross-bridge rice noodles, which came with five kinds of meat (you can choose the type) and a quail egg. You could choose the amount of rice noodles, but the meat, toppings, and broth were all mixed together. Unlike in Kunming and other places, the broth is very hot, so you have to add the meat and toppings individually to the broth before adding the rice noodles. Later, we learned that orders of 38 yuan and above are &quot;one person, one set meal,&quot; meaning the toppings, meat, broth, and rice noodles are all served separately.

This large bowl of Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles was so filling I almost broke into a sweat while savoring it. It&#39;s indeed quite meaty, and if I ordered more, I wouldn&#39;t be able to finish it. The broth itself was quite good, though. Looking around, I saw diners flocking to the restaurant. The spacious restaurant was packed with tourists, and even the street outside was full of people enjoying the food. This Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles restaurant was once a filming location for the TV series &quot;Three Meals, Four Seasons.&quot;

✅Visiting Dashuzhai Night Market:

Mengzi Dashuzhai Night Market is a great place for local delicacies. A trip to Mengzi is definitely worth a visit to Dashuzhai Night Market in the evening.

We visited Bisezhai Station during the day and then headed out to explore and sample the local delicacies at Dashuzhai Night Market in the evening. The night market is about three kilometers from the hotel. We strolled, taking in the Mengzi streetscape. We passed the Honghe Avenue overpass, a wide, clean thoroughfare that felt quite spectacular.

Arriving at the Dashuzhai Night Market, the streets were ablaze with lights, bustling with tourists, and filled with endless food stalls. We rarely visit night markets and don&#39;t like to eat too much at night, but this time, the food captivated us.

We found a table and ordered a plate of Xin&#39;an Dipping Rice Noodle Rolls. Afterward, we wandered around and noticed a long line at Datun&#39;s Liver and Pork. The pig intestines were truly delicious. We had a glass of freshly fried fruit juice and a bottle of handmade tamarind juice, sipping as we strolled. We also spotted Vietnamese mini rice rolls, six for 12 yuan, and found a table to sit and savor them. We encountered many more delicious dishes later, but since we couldn&#39;t finish them all, we could only feast our eyes. It felt like the entire village was selling food. We returned to the hotel, feeling satisfied and satisfied.

✅ Experience Haibianzhai Market:

Go to the market on Sunday morning! This is a very unique local market, held only every Sunday.

As soon as we reached the intersection of Xuezi Road and Mengzi No. 2 Middle School on the edge of South Lake, we saw many locals returning with bags full of shopping. Strolling along the street, we found vendors selling vegetables, fruits, snacks, Chinese herbal medicine, and various wild wild vegetables.

Haibianzhai Flower Market, likely originally named for its flower vendors, is now almost unseen. We tried 2 yuan flower rice, freshly made small glutinous rice balls, and bought some Chinese medicinal herbs and blueberries. Mengzi is rich in fruits like blueberries, loquats, and pomegranates, and they are relatively affordable in the local area.

✅Try Zhuanghu Beef Rice Noodles:

At noon, we went to try the beef rice noodles. Zhuanghu Beef Rice Noodles, tucked away on a nondescript street, was bustling with customers. This halal restaurant doesn&#39;t seem to be open in the afternoon or evening, so we decided to go midday.

We had heard about this place&#39;s delicious and generous portions, so we ordered a 15 yuan portion of rice noodles. The restaurant pairs the toppings and meat, and you get your own rice noodles, with unlimited refills. It was fantastic! The broth was rich and juicy, the noodles were smooth, and the toppings and meat were generous. Two servings were enough to fill me up.

During the meal, the owner was incredibly welcoming. When we asked him which combination would work best, he offered recommendations and unlimited refills. If you felt the noodles weren&#39;t soft enough, you could just reheat them in the broth.

It&#39;s no exaggeration to say this was the best Thai food I&#39;ve had in Mengzi since leaving Laos and Thailand in Southeast Asia. It might even be the most appetizing Thai meal I had during my May Day road trip to Honghe.

This restaurant, &quot;Mi Thai Dopamine Cuisine,&quot; is located on Xintiandi Pedestrian Street. It&#39;s not very large, with two floors. The first floor has small tables, perfect for 2-6 people for a la carte dining. The second floor has private rooms. Across the street is an esports and film-themed hotel. Perhaps because we arrived early, the restaurant wasn&#39;t busy yet. We ordered the &quot;Searching for Nanyang&quot; set meal for two. Sharing delicious flavors: the steaming hot Thai lemongrass pork chop was juicy, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. The flavor was excellent. The golden Thai pineapple fried rice was generous, with just the right amount of firmness. Mango sticky rice with coconut milk is my wife&#39;s favorite. It&#39;s also one of the dishes I often ordered while working in Laos and Thailand. The Thai honey chicken feet were a little tough. Although I loved it, I loved it so much that I left the whole plate for her. Hehehe. I wonder if every woman is a chicken feet enthusiast. My wife ate it all. We were on a clean plate campaign. Luckily I took photos beforehand, otherwise I wouldn&#39;t have any beautiful photos to share.

Thai pineapple fried rice, seafood vermicelli noodles, volcano spare ribs, Simao spicy chicken with Malay shrimp crackers, Thai lemongrass pork chops, sauna beef, Thai honey chicken feet, Thai spicy potatoes, basil beef, broccoli with oyster sauce, and seafood mama fried noodles.

This street should be very lively at night. It&#39;s right next to Yuanxiang Food City, but unfortunately I had to rush to my next trip to the #FoodShow event. Otherwise, I would have definitely tried it.
