每日少开一天车I found three stores on the island. The Zhongxing Road store was closed, and the notice at the door said it was moved 150 meters forward, but I couldn't find it. The Qing'ao Bay store seemed to have a different set menu from the Longbin Road store, which was strange. I always felt that there was a problem with the management. The stores that were open were always crowded with customers, but the queues were not long.

It is said to be a popular drink shop on the island, but later I asked friends who had been there in the past, and they said that there were no such shops at that time... Well, I can only say that the trend of popular drinks is popular. The taste is okay, and the taste is quite strong, but it can't be called amazing. I can only say that it's okay to buy a drink when you are thirsty and tired, but it's really not necessary to go there specially.
A must-visit drink shop on Nan'ao Island, delicious and beautiful, great for taking photos

Just got back from Shantou with 2 pounds! Before leaving, I saw a post saying "Don't go to Shantou in October" and thought it was a warning sign, but it was a complete bummer! It wasn't that they weren't recommending it, they were clearly worried about the crowds and missing out on the 5 a.m. pick-me-up! 🙈 I personally tried it over three days and two nights, tackling seafood, snacks, and the old streets. This "anti-traditional eating guide" is a must-read, so don't share it with too many people! 🦞 3D2N Golden Itinerary: Eat from Dinner to Dinner Day 1: Old Town Food Exploration and Unlock Authentic Snacks 8:00 AM Old Town Street Tour and a Full Breakfast I took the advice! I headed to the "Old Town Arcade Street" at 7:30 a.m. to avoid the peak tour group season. Your first stop is Piaoxiang Snack Shop, a 30-year-old establishment tucked away in an alley. A bowl of pig intestine-stuffed glutinous rice, coated with peanuts and dried shrimp, is 15 yuan. It's bursting with oily flavor, and paired with a bowl of Qingxin Wan (Qingxin Wan) to relieve the greasiness, locals squat outside to eat. Don't stop! Turn to Aixi Dry Noodles for 8 yuan for a bowl of dry noodles with marinade, and order the 5 yuan fish ball soup. The fish balls are so chewy you'll want to drink up the soup too. On the way, you'll encounter a "grass cake auntie" carrying a basket. A bowl sprinkled with sugar for 3 yuan, the smooth texture is incredibly refreshing—this is the true way to enjoy a Shantou breakfast. 2:00 PM: Small Park Arcade: Retro Photography After your meal, head to Shantou Small Park. The arcades are a throwback to the Republic of China era! Wear a light-colored shirt and take photos at the entrance of Nansheng Department Store. The sunlight filtering through the arcade columns creates a retro vibe without a filter. Don't just focus on taking photos; wander into the "Lao Xiang Huang Museum" in the alleyway and see a variety of "vintage Lao Xiang Huang" for free. Just the smell is refreshing. 7:30 PM: Seafood Food Stalls - Enjoy Seafood Freedom Important Warning! Head straight to the food stall next to "Lao Cang Bridge Pig Intestines Glutinous Rice." Don't order the "set meal" on the menu! Go directly to the seafood pond. October crabs are steamed for 50 yuan/jin (approximately 100g) and are the freshest. Mantis shrimp are 35 yuan/jin (approximately 100g) and are cooked with salt and pepper, so you can chew them right through the shell. Add a plate of stir-fried thin-shelled shrimp for 15 yuan, paired with a bottle of local beer. The total cost is 80 yuan per person, so you'll be eating until you're leaning against the wall. Day 2: Island Safari - A Double Harvest of Seafood and Scenery 8:30 AM: Nan'ao Island - Heading for the Blue Sea Wake up early! Drive 1.5 hours from the city to Nan'ao Island. Don't blink as you walk across the Nan'ao Bridge. The blue waters spread out beneath the bridge, creating a wallpaper in every photo. First stop: Sailing Square. The red lighthouse stands out against the sea. Wearing a white dress for photos, you'll be instantly flooded with requests for your address on your social media feed. 12:00 PM: Houzhai Town - Enjoy Island Specialties Don't eat in the tourist area! At Houzhai Town's "Awen Seafood Stir-fry," order the "Sea Stone Flower" for 25 yuan. It's icy and smooth like jelly, and pairs perfectly with seafood porridge. Then order the "Thin Shell Rice Fried Rice" for 20 yuan, a large plate bursting with seafood flavor. Even two bowls won't be enough. 3:00 PM: Qing'ao Bay - Sand and Waves After a satisfying meal, head to Qing'ao Bay. The beach looks like it's been dusted with sugar, and the water is crystal clear blue! Rent a lounge chair for 30 yuan/hour, enjoy the sea breeze, and watch others surf. When you're tired, head to the nearby "Juice Ice Company" for a 12 yuan glass of mango ice cream, so juicy it's almost impossible to sip. This is true island bliss. 6:00 PM: Island Ring Road - Catch a Stunning Sunset Don't miss it! Driving from Qing'ao Bay along the East Ring Road, the sunset around 6 PM was breathtaking, painting the sea a golden color. Stopping by the roadside to snap silhouettes was a true masterpiece. Along the way, we came across a stall selling freshly grilled squid for 10 yuan a bag. Eating while watching the sunset was a truly blissful experience. Day 3: Wrap up the Old Street and take some delicious food home. 9:00 AM: Lao Ma Palace - Explore Intangible Cultural Heritage Cuisine Don't just burn incense at Lao Ma Palace! The Lao Ma Palace Zongqiu (rice dumplings) at the entrance are a must-try. Each one is 10 yuan. The salty one is filled with pork belly and salted egg yolk, while the sweet one is stuffed with red bean paste and lotus seeds. You get two flavors in one bite, and locals buy them as souvenirs. 12:00 PM: Jinping District - Enjoy hidden gems. The last meal must be a serious treat! Go to Fuhecheng Night Congee in Jinping District (also open during the day) and order the "Fish Cake Soup" for 18 yuan. The fish cake is thin and filling, bursting with fresh fish. Then order the "Chao Kuey Teow" for 12 yuan, which is full of wok flavor and paired with a cup of old medicinal orange water to relieve greasiness and stimulate the appetite. 2:00 PM: Souvenirs and a Guide to Avoiding Scams Don't buy the "expensive dried seafood" in the scenic area! Go to Piaoxiang Snack Shop in the old city area and buy "Lao Xiang Huang" and "Huangpi Fermented Black Bean Sauce" for 20 yuan each. They are super refreshing when soaked in water. Also, take home a few vacuum-packed bags of "Nan'ao Island Fish Balls" for 30 yuan each, making them super convenient for hot pot. 💣 The Truth About Shantou's October Trap Avoidance & Money-Saving Tips 1. Transportation Tips: The starting price of a taxi in the city is 8 yuan. To reach Nan'ao Island, it's recommended to drive yourself. Rentals cost 150 yuan per day, offering more freedom than a tour group. Avoid illegal motorcycle taxis, which charge 20 yuan per kilometer and are a real rip-off. 2. Food Minefield: Avoid those internet-famous pickled shrimp shops! Locals head to the small shop next to Laocang Bridge in the old city center. They offer fresh and hygienic shrimp for 25 yuan per portion. Avoid the overpriced pickled shrimp in the scenic area for 50 yuan per portion. 3. Accommodation Tips: Stay in a B&B in the old city center for 150 yuan/night. You can eat right outside, but the soundproofing is poor. For comfort, choose a chain hotel in Longhu District for 200 yuan/night, a 10-minute taxi ride from the city center, quiet and convenient. 4. Weather Warning: Shantou's October temperatures can reach 30°C at noon and 22°C in the morning and evening, so wear short sleeves and a light jacket! The wind can be strong at the beach, so remember to bring a windbreaker to avoid catching a cold. 5. Ticket Trap: Nan'ao Island is free! Don't believe the "charged attractions on the island." Aside from the Songjing (16 yuan/person), which is worth seeing, the other popular check-in spots are mostly gimmicks. The free beaches and the ring road around the island are the real treasures. Who says October isn't recommended for Shantou? With its early morning marinated food, midday seafood, evening sunsets, and alley snacks, it's clearly the best time of year to eat! The only downside is that after returning to the city, your mind will be filled with the flavors of Shantou and you won't be able to forget them. 🌊 #ShantouTravelGuide #OctoberTravelRecommendations #3D2NItinerary #ChaoshanFoodTour #IslandUniqueTravel
