Jiang Youji is a century-old restaurant in Nanjing. This time, I was strolling in Nanjing Laomendongli and passed by Jiang Youji, so I went in to satisfy my craving and ordered the signature beef pot stickers and beef wontons. The taste was pretty good. This is a halal restaurant, so please don't bring in outside food.

The last time I went to Nanjing, I didn't get to eat beef pot stickers at Jiang Youji, which was a bit regretful. So this time when I visited Nanjing again, I was determined to eat at Jiang Youji. Among the several branches of Jiang Youji, I chose the Laomendong branch, which is easier to reach from the hotel. At first, I thought Laomendong was just a place name, but when I got there, I found that it was actually a historical and cultural district. After eating pot stickers, I could also visit Laomendong, which was an unexpected surprise. Jiang Youji is in San Tiaoying, Laomendong. It is said that the origin of this place name is because it used to be a military barracks. Now, as soon as you enter San Tiaoying, there are restaurants on both sides of the street, and Jiang Youji is almost in the middle. Jiang Youji's facade feels very clean. Under the sign of the century-old store, the names and prices of all the food in the store are hung. The store is a front-store-back-kitchen layout, which seems a little crowded. Behind the transparent glass, the chefs' operations can be seen clearly. The first time I ate Jiang Youji, of course, I started with the main dishes, beef pot stickers, beef wontons, and beef vermicelli. Order and pay at the cashier near the door, and hand the pre-paid bill to the chef behind the glass. When our pot stickers are ready, the chef will ring the bell to call our number. Beef pot stickers, 9 yuan for 5. Long strips. The skin is fried golden, slightly crispy, but not hard. When you bite it open, some soup flows out. The meat is delicious and tastes good without vinegar. Beef wontons, 10 yuan a bowl. The skin of this wonton looks very thin, and the beef inside is more tender and delicious than the beef in the pot stickers. Beef vermicelli soup, 14 yuan, is my favorite of the three delicacies. The beef is sliced ​​and the vermicelli is smooth. The most delicious thing is the soup. The delicious taste is slightly stimulating with some curry, which makes me love it even more. After having a satisfying meal at Jiang Youji, you must stroll through the traditional streets and alleys of Laomendong, which is located south of the ancient capital Jinling and east of Zhonghuamen and has a strong flavor of old Nanjing.

It is in a small alley on Confucius Temple Street. It is not easy to find. It is about 10-20 meters south of Lianhu Cake Shop and on the left side of the alley. The shop is not big and has a few tables. The beef pot stickers cost 5 yuan per liang five years ago, but now it costs 8 yuan. They are shaped like a bow and have the color of crab roe. They are fresh and delicious. I recommend it. The beef soup cost 10 yuan per serving five years ago, but now it costs 12 yuan. It is perfect with pot stickers. I personally think it is the best shop on Confucius Temple Street!

The store is quite large, but it seems that most people like to eat on the first and second floors. There are not many people. You need to order first and then pick up the food yourself. The price is not expensive and the taste is very good. It is worth mentioning that they have a complete range of small ingredients, including several kinds of chili peppers.

I went to Laomendong specifically for Jiang Youji. After getting off Zhonghuamen Castle, I followed the navigation for 10 minutes. It felt a bit confusing, but I finally found it. Jiang Youji is in a small alley with other restaurants, next to Lan Lao Da and Xiao Zheng Su Shaobing. It was very crowded. After paying, you'll be given a receipt and a sign. You'll take the receipt to the first-floor pick-up window. You'll be called and handed your number by the sign. The shop has a second floor, but I sat on the first floor for convenience. I ordered the signature beef pot stickers and beef wontons. The wontons came out quickly, but the pot stickers were freshly made and took several pots to prepare. The beef wontons were small, like large mini wontons. A bowl contained about ten of them. The wrapper was very thin, and the beef filling was very filling. The flavor was excellent, especially the broth, which was incredibly fresh. It was a delightful meal. You could see the staff making the wontons right on the premises, and the food was very fresh. The beef pot stickers are a must-order for everyone. After we had almost finished our wontons, the pot stickers finally arrived. Five of them per order. They're quite different from the ones in Shanghai. They're huge, golden, and crispy, looking incredibly tempting. They're also very juicy right out of the oven, and you almost spit them out when you take a bite. They're truly delicious, and the base is also very crispy and delicious. I love them so much. I haven't been to Li Ji, so I can't compare, but I think it's worth going there specifically for Jiang You Ji.
