爱玩的阿七This summer, my first stop with my kids was Yunnan! We originally planned to go to Banna, but after reading too many travel guides (and thinking about the commercialized Hongcun 😭), we decided to go to Pu'er, a hidden gem! It was a truly worthwhile decision! The crowds were minimal, the scenery was beautiful, and the experience was fantastic. The kids had a blast! Here's my itinerary: 📍 Day 1: Tianjin → Kunming Landed in Kunming in the evening, and we got straight to the point—mushroom hotpot! A truly ceremonial experience: no chopsticks provided, and samples kept—safety first! The mushrooms were incredibly fresh! Key point: Always choose a large or specialty store—safety is paramount! 📍 Day 2: Kunming Local Life Experience Day Morning: Donghua Market > Zhuanxin Market. Want to experience authentic Kunming? Skip the crowds at the internet-famous Zhuanxin Market; Donghua Market is a local favorite, brimming with local flavor! Afternoon: Asia's largest flower market! Head to Dounan Flower Market for amazing prices and a variety of unique flowers and plants—an eye-opener! Evening: A quick tour of the old streets. Have dinner and buy some flower cakes in Kunming Old Street. Old streets are similar everywhere, so just a quick visit is enough. 📍 Day 3: Kunming → Pu'er (Stay in the Forest! 🌳) The high-speed rail took over 3 hours to get to Pu'er. The **Asia-Pacific Forest Base Hotel, which we booked in advance, was so thoughtful and arranged a pick-up at the station. We ordered our meals from the hotel on the way and ate them right away upon arrival. Afternoon: Forest crafts. At 2:00 PM, we participated in the hotel's botanical specimen making workshop, and the kids had a blast. Evening: Explore the small forest! At 9:00 AM, we participated in the night insect watching activity (book in advance!). We used flashlights to look for bugs, and the kids were thrilled! We stayed in a cabin in the forest, and the air was so good it was intoxicating (Picture 7)! Day 4: Pristine rainforest hike! → Pu'er City Morning: Running Man-style rainforest! We took the hotel's rainforest hike (3.5 hours) and it wasn't tiring at all! The air was incredibly fresh (the negative oxygen ions were off the charts!), and the path was truly pristine! I heard it's much wilder than the man-made trails in Banna, and my kids discovered new and unique plants along the way (Figures 8-9). Afternoon: Return to the city. After the hike, return to Pu'er city for your overnight stay (we chose Holiday Inn Express). Evening: Mushroom feast! Locals recommended "Wazhen" Mushroom Restaurant. Again, I emphasize: For mushrooms, choose a reputable, established restaurant or chain for safety and security! It's mushroom season, and they're so delicious! D5: Chartered car day trip (Tea Plantation + Red Panda + Coffee!) Morning: Refreshing tea plantation time. My guide suggested going to the plantation first (we were worried about the afternoon rain), and it was a smart move! In the morning, the plantation is less crowded, the sun is off, and the air is incredibly fresh. We experienced the entire process of tea picking and making, and my kids learned it like a charm. Afternoon: We rented the forest to see the red pandas! We went to Sun River Forest Park, perfectly avoiding the tour groups! It felt like the entire forest was ours! The ecology is amazing, and the animals are in great condition (especially the red pandas, they're so adorable!). Tickets are only 100 yuan, a must-go with kids! Highly recommended! Evening: Check in at the coffee farm. We went to Xiaoaozi Coffee Farm and took amazing photos! Unfortunately, we arrived too late to catch the coffee tour (if you want to hear it, be sure to arrive before 4 PM!). 💡 Why choose Pu'er? Less crowded, quiet! A perfect escape from the crowds and commercialization of Xishuangbanna. Experience pure nature! The pristine rainforest, ecological tea plantations, and close animal encounters are all fantastic nature lessons. Delicious and safe! Mushroom season is a feast for the eyes, so choosing the right shop is crucial! Family-friendly! With plenty of activities (hiking, night viewing, tea making), kids can let off steam and adults can relax. 📌 Tips: Staying in a forest hotel: There are many activities (specimens, night viewing, hiking), so make sure to book in advance! For eating mushrooms: Safety first! Always choose a reputable, reputable shop. Charging a car: It's convenient for visiting nearby attractions (tea plantations, Sun River, coffee farms), so finding a reliable driver is crucial! Sun River: Try to avoid peak hours to double the experience! Coffee Farm: For a deeper understanding of coffee, pay attention to the lecture times (Xiaoaozi is usually open before 4 PM). Forgoing Banna and opting for Pu'er was the smartest decision we made this summer! The kids had a blast, and the adults weren't tired either. Highly recommended for those who want to experience nature and avoid crowds with their kids!
