One of the more popular restaurants in Sun Palace, I went early and waited in line for a table. The restaurant is quite large, with a retro, shiny decor. There's outdoor seating along the corridor, as well as several private rooms that require advance reservations. Looking at the menu, I realized it's an upgraded version of the Jiangnan Li restaurant. Tea and snacks were served first, with nine cups available for you to choose from. New Hangzhou Pepper Beef (88 yuan) features a slightly crispy skin and tender center, a rich and slightly spicy black pepper sauce, and crispy, smooth Hangzhou peppers. Runny Preserved Egg with Stingray Skin (32 yuan) boasts a runny, golden center, a soft, springy texture, and a crisp, savory, and salty skin.
