We'd booked a private room in advance, and sat by the window, just in time for the golden sunset. The afterglow spilled onto the river, cruise ships glided slowly by, and the Bund buildings on the opposite bank gradually lit up, like a galaxy cascading down to earth.
The private room connected to a terrace, and climbing the steps opened up a breathtaking view—sharing the same river view as the adjacent Tomson Riviera restaurant.
The food was even more of a surprise.
The steamed white pomfret with chicken oil, Sichuan peppercorns, and Sichuan peppercorns was so tender it melted in your mouth, the subtle numbing sensation of the Sichuan peppercorns gently tantalizing your taste buds—delicious and not greasy.
The braised mutton stew was incredibly fragrant. The mutton was stewed until tender and flavorful, and the radish soaked up the broth. One bite, and warmth spread from my stomach.
The pickled radish and lobster soup was a perfect match. The chewy lobster was coated in the crisp pickled radish, and the glass noodles soaked up the tangy broth—appetizing and satisfying.
The grand finale was the stir-fried beef cubes with black garlic and scallions. The beef was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with the sweetness of the black garlic and the aroma of the scallions blending together for a lingering aftertaste.
This evening, I enjoyed both beautiful scenery and delicious food—truly a perfect experience.
