To be honest, the buns taste great, better than those big-name buns. Personally, I think the side dishes are really good. Paired with beer, beef
Searched the ranking of steamed buns and this one is number one. I came here as soon as I got off the bus. There were not many people in the morning. I felt that this place was not good at that time. I went to the counter and bought three or two of each steamed bun. The steamed buns are not cheap. I spent more than 100 yuan for a breakfast. When I ate it, the taste was really not good. I really don’t know how this steamed bun ranked first? It’s not as good as the third steamed bun I have eaten. It’s too ordinary. I really can’t believe the rankings and don’t believe some guide recommendations. This steamed bun is ranked tenth at most in Tianjin. It’s not delicious. If you have eaten steamed buns from many places and have a comparison, you will know whether this one is good or not.
#Local Delicacies Only Available Here Not far from the back square of Tianjin Railway Station, this is a long-established steamed bun shop. I personally like it; they mainly sell pork buns and three-delicacy buns, with the latter being my favorite. The taste is exactly what I remember from Tianjin steamed buns—similar to Goubuli, but not as oily. It's a matter of personal preference. It's mostly frequented by locals.
• Starting Point: Tianjin Railway Station • Daytime Route: Century Clock—Jiefang Bridge—Jinwan Square—Jiefang North Road → Tai'an Road Five Courtyards → Xiaobailou (Tianjin Concert Hall) → Five Avenues → Minyuan Square • Evening Recommendations: Porcelain House, Jiefang Bridge, Century Clock, Jinwan Square (better night view) Food Recommendations • Breakfast: Jinmen Zhangji Steamed Buns (Three-delicacy buns with shrimp, 5 yuan/3 buns, expect to queue) • Lunch: Dayan Potstickers (Seafood Potstickers, 9 yuan/50g, minimum order 300g) • Afternoon Snack: Wangzhongwang Shaved Ice (Old-fashioned type with ice chips) • Dinner: Must-try Seafood (Popular with long queues, arrive half an hour early) Travel Tips • Attractions are close together, walking or using shared bikes is recommended. Buying a multi-day unlimited bike pass is more cost-effective. • Wear comfortable shoes, remember to bring a jacket or shawl as it gets cool in the evening. • The Porcelain House is even more beautiful when lit up, and the lights change when the Century Clock strikes precisely on the hour. It's highly recommended to see it on time. • Must-try seafood: Arrive half an hour early to catch the first wave and avoid long queues. #TianjinSpecialties #TianjinTourism #TianjinTravel #CouplesOuting #SuitableForCouples
How many friends come to Tianjin specifically for its breakfast? Today, I'll take you on a tour of Tianjin's breakfast scene from a local foodie's perspective. 🍔The Must-Haves: Jianbing Guozi (Chinese Crepe): To be honest, it's hard to recommend a truly amazing one these days. Don't bother with trendy spots; just look for the long queues outside residential buildings—they're usually pretty good. The taste from my childhood was just crepes, without any other fillings. If you're really unsure where to go, places like Nanlou Jianbing are a safe bet; they won't be bad. Dabing Jia Yi Ye (Chinese Crepe with Everything): In my opinion, this has surpassed Jianbing Guozi and taken the top spot for breakfast! Fried chicken cutlets, fried quail eggs… anything can be added, topped with the signature sauce, wrapped in a hot dabing—satisfying! Baozi (Steamed Buns): Goubuli is good, but not cheap. If you're looking for value for money, places like Zhangji Baozi Shop and Ergu Baozi are good options. However, baozi shops are everywhere in Tianjin, so it's best to check reviews on Dianping (a Chinese review platform) before you go. A single character difference in the shop name can mean a world of difference in taste. Juanquan (卷圈): Bean curd skin wrapped around a filling of bean sprouts, cilantro, and fermented bean curd. Trust me, it's a bit salty on its own; you have to eat it with a flatbread to elevate the flavor! Zhagao (炸糕): Erduoyan Zhagao is famous, but there are many other delicious Zhagao shops in Tianjin. Pinghu Zhagao and Erjie Zhagao are also worth trying. 🍲Soup and Flavor Section Tofu Pudding (豆腐脑): In Tianjin, it's called Lao Doufu (老豆腐). Its soul lies in the gravy, which contains daylily buds and wood ear mushrooms. Served with a fried dough stick, it's absolutely divine! Gaba Cai (嘎巴菜): Unique to Tianjin! You can think of it as strips of jianbing (煎饼果子) skin topped with a special gravy. The flavor is savory and unique; a must-try when visiting Tianjin. Wonton: Elsewhere they're called wontons or wonton soup, but in Tianjin, a bowl of thin-skinned, generously filled wontons is a popular choice for breakfast. Lamb Soup: It's available everywhere, but try Tianjin's lamb soup – it'll definitely be different from what you're used to back home. Just drink the clear broth; that's the true flavor of lamb soup. Miancha (Millet Porridge): A porridge made from millet flour, topped with sesame salt and sesame paste. Honestly, I don't really like it; it's a bit too thick, haha... 🍟Snacks & Desserts Candied Fruit/Fried Cake: As a child, I often ate unsweetened fried cakes, but later I discovered that candied fruit coated in sugar has a unique flavor. Steamed Pear Cake/Tea Soup: If you see these while shopping, you can buy some steamed pear cake for nostalgia, or a bowl of tea soup brewed in a large copper kettle with a dragon-shaped spout. It's a bit like lotus root starch, a taste of childhood. Not amazing, but not bad either; it's about the nostalgia. 🥘Foodie's Guide Hidden Gems for Breakfast: Don't just stick to the northwest corner! Honghuli, Jiayuanli, Qingzhen South Mosque, and Zhongshanmen are all great options for more authentic flavors. One-Stop Shops: Want to try a variety of breakfast options at once? Head to places like Zhensucheng and Dafulai – they offer a wide selection and consistent quality. Hopefully, this personal Tianjin breakfast guide will help you enjoy your breakfast in Tianjin!
