Constructed of somber blue bricks and mortar, the two-story Western-style building features an arcade structure, simple lines, and minimal ornamentation, exuding a pragmatic and austere atmosphere characteristic of the late Victorian era. Built in 1877 on the banks of the Yangtze River, this building was not a product of friendly cultural exchange, but rather a direct consequence of Western powers opening up the Chinese inland market after the Treaty of Yantai. It was once a symbol of power, a nerve ending of colonial influence, controlling trade in goods such as tea and rice, and also a microcosm of that "humiliating modern history" in Wuhu.
As I left, I looked back again. This blue brick building stood there silently, but its significance had transformed from that of a former "conqueror" to that of a "storyteller." It tells not only the story of a national humiliation, but also the story of a nation rising from the ashes and transforming these historical scars into guiding lights for progress. It's not just a building, but a microcosm of history, worthy of exploration and reflection by everyone who visits Wuhu. #HistoricalArchitecture #MuseumWonderfulTour #CityCultureNotes #CapturingCityCulture

The environment is OK, the service is average, and the food tastes good.
