Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro in Sicily, located in the northwest corner of Sicily, between Scopello and San Vito lo Capo, is the first nature reserve established in Sicily. The reserve has a 7-kilometer coastline with limestone cliffs, hidden bays and magnificent giant caves along the way. The sea water is crystal clear and the color varies from emerald green to cobalt blue. There are 6 rocky beaches, including Cala dell'Uzzo, Cala Marinella, Cala Berretta, Cala della Disa, Cala del Varo and Cala Capreria. Each rocky beach has fine white pebbles and clear water, which is a great place for sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling.
There are about 700 different plant species growing here, including the only palm tree native to Europe - the Mediterranean fan-leaved palm, some of which can grow up to two meters high. Hiking route: The shortest hiking distance at the north and south ends is 7 kilometers, with detailed signposts along the way. The Sentiero Costiero route is less difficult and suitable for most tourists; the Sentiero Alto route is slightly more difficult and offers more spectacular views, but requires a certain level of hiking experience and physical strength.
