Wu Gorge is located between Wushan County, Chongqing and Badong County, Hubei Province. It starts from the Daning River mouth of Wushan in the west and ends at Guandukou in the east. It stretches for 45 kilometers. It is commonly known as the Daxia. "Famous. Wu Gorge is a relatively coherent and tidy canyon in the Three Gorges. It is divided into two sections: the western section is composed of Jinkui Yinjia Gorge and Jianchuan Gorge, and the eastern section is composed of Iron Coffin Gorge and Menfan Gorge. The whole canyon is abrupt with strange peaks and jagged rocks, like a tortuous gallery. The famous twelve peaks of Wushan are located on both sides, six in the north and south. The twelve peaks are beautiful and picturesque, and they are the essence of Wu Gorge. Among the twelve peaks, the Goddess Peak is especially famous. The beautiful stone pillar on the peak is like a slim girl. She welcomes the sunrise every day, and sends the sunset away in the evening, so it is also called "Wangxia Peak". However, if you visit Wu Gorge by boat, you can only see nine of them. The three in the south of the Yangtze River (Rising Peak, Qiyun Peak, and Jingtan Peak) have to abandon the boat and go ashore, and can only be seen near Qingshi Town. The Wu Canyon is deep and narrow, with short sunshine hours. The water vapor in the canyon does not dissipate, and it is easy to form clouds. The clouds and mists are in a variety of shapes, like swimming dragons, jade belts, waterfalls, and veils. Under the sunlight, they are very graceful and form the famous Wuxia Buddha Light. Yuan Zhen, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, left behind the eternal sing of "Once the sea was difficult to become water, except Wushan is not a cloud", which is a wonderful description of Wushan's clouds and mists. There are many scenic spots and historic sites in Wu Gorge. In addition to the well-known twelve peaks of Wushan Mountain, there are also Luyou Ancient Cave, Dayu's Teaching Platform, Goddess Temple Site, Kongming Stone Stele, etc., all of which attract tourists from all over the world with their profound historical heritage. A more suitable way to visit Wu Gorge is to take a boat downstream from the Yangtze River Ferry Terminal in Wushan County, and watch the magnificent twelve peaks of Wushan Mountain and the misty clouds and rain of Wushan Mountain all the way.Wushan County · 21.2 km from Badong

The Three Gorges Dam Tourism Area

The Three Gorges Dam Tourism Area is located in the Xiling Gorge section of the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei. It is a scenic attraction built around the Three Gorges hydro project, covering over ten square kilometers. Currently, it offers travelers three viewing spots: Tanzi Ridge, the 185 viewing platform, and the river closure memorial park. The dam crest itself is not open to travelers, so visits primarily revolve around these three attractions. Tanzi Ridge is the highest accessible point in the dam area, named for its jar-shaped summit viewing platform resembling an overturned jar. It also served as the survey site for the dam's initial location selection. From the ridge top, visitors can overlook the Three Gorges Project in its entirety—the dam, power station, and twin five-level ship locks are all visible. The five lock chambers cascade down the mountainside, earning the nickname "Fourth Gorge of the Yangtze." The park displays engineering artifacts like ancient riverbed stones, river closure rocks, and foundation stones from the dam site, complemented by model exhibits that help visitors intuitively understand the origins and development of this mega-project. The 185 observation platform is located on the left bank of the dam. It gets its name from sharing the same elevation of 185 m as the dam crest. Standing on the platform feels like being atop the dam: on one side, the dam and vertical ship lift are within close reach, offering a chance to witness ships "riding the elevator" over the dam; on the other side lies the vast, tranquil reservoir upstream. The stark contrast between the stillness above and the dynamism below the dam is striking. The closure memorial park is situated on the right bank downstream of the dam, preserving artifacts like tetrahedral closure stones and large loading machinery used during the construction. It's an ideal spot to view the dam's full frontal grandeur. During flood seasons when the dam releases water, torrents rush out from the deep outlets, creating towering mist and thunderous echoes that reverberate through the valley—a truly awe-inspiring spectacle. The three attractions are far apart, and the scenic area provides shuttle buses for transportation. It is recommended to reserve half a day to visit them in order.Yichang · 70.3 km from Badong

Three Gorges Dragon Spine is a hiking trail in Wushan County that extends along the ridge on the north bank of Wu Gorge. Starting from the mouth of Wu Gorge, it winds up along the ancient ridge path, reaching Denglong Peak, one of the twelve peaks of the Yangtze River Three Gorges. It is named for the ridge's shape, which resembles a crouching dragon's spine, and passes through landmarks such as the Zhenshui Tower and Wenfeng Temple. Walking along it offers expansive views, allowing you to overlook the rolling mountains on both banks of Wu Gorge, as well as gaze out at the high gorges and calm waters of the Yangtze River and the full panorama of Wushan County. The entire hike is approx. 12 km long with a cumulative elevation gain of approx. 1000 m. It is moderately difficult to challenging and takes approx. 5 to 7 hours to complete. There are several points along the trail where you can turn back and descend. The half-way point is approx. 4 km, which can be completed in 2 to 3 hours; this section is relatively flat, with the climb concentrated in the first part and a longer descent in the latter part. From late autumn to early winter each year, red leaves spread across the mountains along the ridge, making it a classic route for viewing the red leaves of Wu Gorge. The trail is also equipped with lighting, allowing for night hikes to take in the night view of Wushan County and the Yangtze River.Wushan County · 41.4 km from Badong

Yangtze River Three Gorges

The Yangtze River Three Gorges is a grand canyon formed by the Yangtze cutting through the Wushan Mountains. It stretches nearly 200 km from White Emperor City in Fengjie, Chongqing, in the west to Nanjin Pass in Yichang, Hubei, in the east, connecting three gorges—Qutang, Wuxia, and Xiling—from west to east. This stretch of river has served as a vital waterway between Ba and Chu since ancient times. Li Bai's verse "Departing at dawn from White Emperor City veiled in colorful clouds" depicts the eastbound journey from the gorge entrance, while Du Fu left his famous line "The endless Yangtze rolls on and on" in Fengjie. Each gorge has distinct characteristics, often summarized as "majestic Qutang, graceful Wuxia, and perilous Xiling." Qutang Gorge spans only about 8 km but is renowned for its sheer cliffs. At Kuimen, its entrance, the river abruptly narrows to less than 100 m between knife-cut bluffs—a scene featured on the back of China's fifth series CNY 10 banknote. Ancient plank road holes and Wind Box Gorge's hanging coffins remain visible on the cliffs. Wuxia Gorge extends over 40 km like a winding gallery, with the Twelve Peaks lining its banks. Goddess Peak stands elegantly photogenic in morning mist. Xiling Gorge was once notorious for rapids, but the Three Gorges Dam has transformed its upper reaches into a "high gorge with placid waters." Riverside landmarks like White Emperor City and Huangling Temple are worth visiting. Cruising is the best way to experience the gorges. Long-distance ships sail downstream, while short round-trip boats shuttle through key sections. Watching peaks drift by from the deck offers a more immersive perspective than shore viewing. Morning mist often creates ideal conditions for photographing Kuimen and Goddess Peak. Cliffside plank road relics and inscriptions may flash by during the cruise—keep an eye out to avoid missing them.Yichang · 96.1 km from Badong

Experience breathtaking scenery and heartfelt hospitality; you'll never truly know the beauty of the Three Gorges until you visit. As the cruise sets sail, you'll enjoy the scenic gems of the Three Gorges and the world-renowned hydroelectric city of Yichang along the Riverside Avenue: World Peace Park, Yiling Yangtze River Bridge, Yichang's Little Bund—Binjiang Park, the Fourth Pavilion of the Yangtze River—Zhenjiang Pavilion, Yichang's water town—Xiba Island, and Gezhouba Dam. Passing through the ship lock offers a unique experience, with stunning views of the natural beauty of Xiling Gorge unfolding before your eyes. The cruise navigates through the single-line ship lock at Gezhouba Dam, allowing you to experience the unique sensation of rising with the water, while taking in the panoramic view of the majestic Gezhouba Dam. The journey continues into the picturesque Three Gorges Gallery—Xiling Gorge, which spans 76 kilometers, with the cruise covering 38 kilometers of its most scenic section, offering an endless array of breathtaking views. The segment between Gezhouba Dam and the Three Gorges Dam, known as "Two Dams and One Gorge," features the natural grandeur of the eastern section of Xiling Gorge. Due to the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, the western section of Xiling Gorge, along with the entire Wu Gorge and Qutang Gorge, has been submerged, raising the water level by 60 to over 100 meters, altering some of the original landscapes. However, the Xiling Gorge section between the two dams retains its pristine gorge scenery, making it highly valuable for sightseeing. The Qu Yuan's Hometown Scenic Area is located in the new county town of Zigui, adjacent to the Three Gorges Dam, just 600 meters away. Covering approximately 500 acres, it offers stunning views of the high gorges and tranquil lakes. The area features 24 relocated cultural relics from the gorge, including the Qu Yuan Temple and Jiangdu Temple. The main attractions include the Qu Yuan Memorial Scenic Area centered around Qu Yuan Temple, the Three Gorges Ancient Residence Area highlighting Xintan ancient dwellings, gorge stone carvings, and ancient bridges, as well as the Qu Yuan Cultural and Art Center and the waterfront scenic belt.Yichang · 91.2 km from Badong

It happened to be the host of the Yeshanguan Marathon, and the whole town was very lively, with foreign athletes participating. Because of the accident at the Dodge Gorge a few days ago, tourists were not allowed to go down to the scenic spots under the bridge, but the bridge viewing from other places was still spectacular.

The Xiangyang Ancient City Wall is located in Xiangcheng District, Xiangyang City, Hubei Province. Originally built during the Han Dynasty, it underwent several renovations from the Tang to the Qing Dynasties. The wall was initially roughly square, with a perimeter of 7331 meters, a maximum height of 10.84 meters, and a thickness of 11-14 meters. The overall structure includes trapezoidal cross-section walls and arched gates. The city wall has six gates on its four sides, each with a barbican or inner city, and corner towers at the four corners. Along the wall are watchtowers and beacon towers, and over 4000 crenellations are built. A moat surrounds the city, reaching a maximum width of 250 meters and an average width of 180 meters. On June 25, 2001, the Xiangyang Ancient City Wall was designated as a fifth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Speaking of the ancient city of Xiangyang, it inevitably evokes memories of Jin Yong's martial arts novels for a generation. The legendary stories of the heroes Guo Jing and Huang Rong defending the city and Yang Guo losing his arm all took place here. It was also a place where Yue Fei's army once fought.

This down-to-earth experience recreates traditional Tujia customs such as the daughter's festival, the weeping wedding ceremony, and the hand-waving dance. Performers invite tourists to dance and interact, creating a highly engaging experience. Combined with the nighttime scenery of the stilted houses and the ambiance created by the red lanterns, the performance offers excellent value for money. The activities are lighthearted and lively, suitable for all ages, and perfect for family outings.
