Reviews: Whaka Trails and Maori Village Combo Tour

This is a guided walk through a Maori village and a self-guided tour of the valley with lakes. There will be no Haka dance performance in the village; that must be purchased separately. It turns out there are two companies in this valley, dividing the area in half. From this company's side, the geyser is visible from afar; you won't be able to get close; that's the other company's territory. But the colorful lakes, mud lakes, and other features are spectacular. The route is easy to complete with children. The village is also interesting; it's not a staged village, but a real one. Of course, the houses there are modern, but that makes it even more interesting. We were treated to corn boiled in a spring.
Reviews: Auckland: Rotorua Living Maori Village Tour w/ Haka & Lunch
Guest User2026-02-07
Our guide Jason was friendly, engaging and thoughtful. As we were travelling with an older person, he was constantly checking in to ensure that we are doing alright. The tour operator Expedigo NZ was also prompt in notifying us that there was a slight delay for the morning pickup. The experience at Whakarewarewa Maori Village was great to give us a peek into the day to day living of the Maoris. Our guide around the village was passionate, informative and friendly. The cultural song, dance and haka performances were simply beautiful and left a deep impression on us. The hangi lunch, though simple, was nice. To experience the Maori culture, this tour is recommended.
