Itinerary
Day 1: Hukou Waterfall, Former Residence of Beijing Educated Youth. Meals and accommodation not included.
Morning private transfer to the meeting point, then take a bus to Yichuan (approx. 350km, travel time around 4.5 hr). At 12:30, visit the Former Residence of Beijing Educated Youth (complimentary attraction, no admission ticket required). This was the living quarters for Beijing educated youth during the Down to the Countryside Movement, where you can see original cave dwellings and experience the hardships of their life in Northern Shaanxi. Feel the pulsating rhythm of Hukou Drum Fighting, participate in the artistic marathon of Northern Shaanxi Yangge Dance, and witness local folk customs like donkey-powered mill grinding, yarn spinning, and paper-cutting. Immerse yourself in authentic Northern Shaanxi culture - these cave dwellings are still inhabited today, with locals often singing folk songs and performing drum battles here. If you're lucky, you might even join in. 13:00 Lunch: Local specialty cuisine (at your own expense). 14:00 Visit Hukou Waterfall of the Yellow River (self-paid scenic shuttle: 40 CNY/person). Known as "China's Natural Wonder and National Soul," this waterfall symbolizes the spirit of the Chinese nation, showcasing the grandeur of the Mother River and nature's craftsmanship. "The wind roars, horses neigh, the Yellow River thunders - defending our homeland, defending the Yellow River, defending all of China." Marvel at the river gorge, Ten-Mile Dragon Trough, soaring rainbows, thunderous dry-season roars, mist rising like smoke, and mirror-like rock pools - experiencing the heartbeat of the Mother River firsthand. On the return trip to Xi'an, the guide will introduce Shaanxi specialty products available for optional purchase based on personal preference.
Hukou Waterfall in Four Seasons
Spring: As the frozen river thaws, clusters of ice flow downstream like an army in formation or ten thousand galloping horses. Summer: Under the blazing sun, the waterfall's drop intensifies, creating splashing waves and mist rising from the Dragon Pool. Autumn: With clear skies and sparse clouds, waters from countless ravines converge, roaring like thunder in mighty waves. Winter: A frozen expanse stretches endlessly, while the golden waterfall cascades through snow-clad scenery, resembling a jade palace or a fairy gliding over waves. Hukou Waterfall, with its thunderous and majestic grandeur, stands as a cultural landmark where Chinese people pay homage to the Mother River and embrace the spirit of their nation.
[Hukou Eight Scenic Spots]
Smoke rising from the riverbed, boats sailing on dry land, neon lights dancing on water, mountains flying and sea standing tall, rain falling from clear skies, thunder in drought, inverted ice peaks, and the ten-mile dragon trough.
