Detailed itinerary
08:00 | Departure from Sarajevo
The guide will pick you up at Gazi Husrev Begova 75 or your hotel to begin the day's journey. A brief introduction to Bosnia and Herzegovina's history and today's itinerary will be provided during the ride.
10:00 | Arrive in Travnik
Once the capital of the Ottoman Bosnia Province, it was known as the "City of Viziers."
- Visit Travnik Castle and climb to enjoy panoramic views of the old town.
- Stroll through the old streets and admire Ottoman architecture such as the Šarena Mosque, the Clock Tower, and the sundial.
- Head to the city center's "Blue Water River" (Plava Voda) and enjoy authentic Bosnian coffee at a riverside café—legend has it that Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph once drank coffee here and left a gold coin.
- Visit the Ivo Andrić Museum to learn about the life of this 1961 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate.
12:30 | Depart for Jajce
After about an hour's drive through rural landscapes, you'll arrive at the medieval town of Jajce.
1:30 PM | Explore the Old Town of Jajce
- Visit the iconic Jajce Waterfall: The Pliva River plunges 18 meters into the Vrbas River, with the powerful flow running through the city, making it one of Europe's rare large waterfalls located in an urban center.
- Stroll along the ancient city walls and stone bridges, capturing the harmonious blend of waterfalls and the old town.
14:30 | Explore the Medieval Catacombs
Built in the late 14th century, it originally served as the tomb chamber for a Bosnian noble family. During World War II, Tito briefly used it as an office. Designated as a national cultural heritage site in 2003, its interior exudes solemnity and profound historical significance.
15:30 | Visit the symbol of religious coexistence: St. Mary's Church/Sultan Suleiman II Mosque ruins
The same building has alternately served as both a church and a mosque, with the existing walls still showing the coexistence of a mihrab and a church entrance. The St. Luke's Clock Tower on the northeast side is one of the few medieval clock towers preserved in the Balkan interior.
4:00 PM | Exploring Lake Pliva and the Medieval Watermill
A few km from Jajce, several medieval wooden watermills are preserved by the lakeside, powered by water flow to grind grain with millstones, showcasing ancient wisdom. The picturesque scenery here is perfect for walking, photography, and experiencing tranquil nature.
5:00 PM | Depart for Sarajevo
On the return trip, the guide summarized the day's sights and shared stories of Bosnia and Herzegovina's multicultural diversity.
19:00 | Arrive in Sarajevo, journey complete
