I got both a canal tour and a visit to the Van Gogh Museum for a very reasonable price. I recommend taking a canal tour if you're going that far.

This canal tour was the highlight of our Amsterdam trip! We went on a beautiful Saturday morning and enjoyed a leisurely boat ride throughout the canal area. Captain Dave was fantastic, telling us stories and providing history and architecture notes throughout the trip. We passed other larger boats while we were out on the canals, but I really appreciated that this was such a small boat (12 passengers) because we were able to interact with each other and Captain Dave, ask questions, and customize the experience more than I think would have been possible on a larger boat. Captain Dave also provided free drinks (coffee, tea, water, beer, wine, etc.) and slices of delicious apple bread! We definitely got our money's worth on the water, too, as the "90 minute" trip ended up being closer to 2 hours (Captain Dave confirmed with all the passengers at the start of our trip that none of us had to be back by a specific time). I would highly recommend this canal tour to anyone looking for a laid-back, informative, and less "commercial" experience.

A really lovely village on the canals. Depends on what time of year you go. We went Dec and it was nice and quiet. You have a small electric boat and just glide around the canals taking pictures of the beautiful houses. We also had lunch in a restaurant overlooking the canal. Great meal great service. Don't miss this trip.
