Reviews: Melbourne Puffing Billy Steam Train + Penguin Island Day Tour [Visit two popular attractions in one day]

Since it was a small group, the driver arrived at the hotel on time for pick-up and drop-off. The experience was great with fewer people. The steam train was coal-fired, and the smoke was a bit dirty; I was covered in fine coal dust on the way back, so try not to open your mouth when facing the wind. The penguins were adorable, and you could see them up close from the boardwalk. The starry sky was also beautiful. We had already seen the zoo in Brisbane, so we didn't go again. One hour seemed a bit rushed for the zoo. Kudos to our driver/guide, Banban; he drove very smoothly and also shared some sightseeing tips.

The miniature train was the most memorable part of my trip to Australia!! The itinerary included ample time for meals, making it relatively relaxed. Just be sure to dress warmly and protect yourself from the wind, as it can be windy on the train and the penguins get cold late at night. I recommend bringing binoculars for penguin watching, haha, since cell phones aren't allowed. Also, head to the boardwalk early to see the penguins returning to their nests; you'll get a clearer view than from the beach.

My family and I visited relatives in Melbourne, so we took the kids on this little train tour. The driver, Graeme, was an elderly gentleman, but he was very friendly and even offered to take pictures of the train arriving at the station. Thumbs up! 👍🏻

Because I couldn't get tickets for the miniature train, I booked an English-speaking tour instead. The driver and guide were very helpful and provided excellent explanations. They even took photos and videos for me. I'm so grateful!

A well organised day to visit the wonderful Puffin Billy Railway . About an hour from Melbourne we had time for a comfort stop before departing . A trip of 1 hour was plenty to take us to Lakeside Station . There was a good cafe, shop & lakeside walk before we departed Our next stop was Healesville Sanctuary about 50 minutes away The sanctuary was set in a forest location and showcased a large number of Australia's indigenous creatures. Really would have appreciated more time there to get the full experience ! Michael our driver and guide was very good and kept us informed throughout the day on local sights & history Would thoroughly recommend this trip
