Aso Nakadake Crater

Get a close-up view of the sulfur smoke erupting from the active volcanic crater, which has a diameter of 600 meters, a depth of 130 meters, and a circumference of 4 km, making it the world's largest caldera.
Visit the Volcano Museum and observe volcanic activity in real-time via remote-controlled cameras (alternative when the crater is closed).
From the summit of Mount Daikan on the outer rim of Aso, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Aso Five Peaks (Mount Takadake at 1,592 meters and Mount Nakadake with its active eruptions).

Kusasenri Beach
Tour Highlights:
A 1 km-diameter double crater grassland, where the central pond reflects the volcanic smoke from Mount Nakadake in Aso. The view varies dramatically with the seasons: lush green in summer, snow-covered silver in winter, and golden pastures in autumn.
Horse riding experience (available from April to November), choose between a 5-min experience (1,500 JPY) or a 25-min in-depth riding session (5,000 JPY).
Visit the Aso Volcano Museum to learn about geological formation history; enjoy Akaushi don (local Wagyu beef dish) at the "Shin Kusasenri" restaurant.

Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine
Key attractions:
Sando and Torii: 97 moss-covered stone lanterns extend along 260 steps, with sunlight filtering through the trees to create dappled shadows. It is known as the "entrance to another world" and was a filming location for the anime "Hotarubi no Mori e".
Nukiiwa Rock: Legend says this giant wind-carved rock tunnel was kicked through by the demon-quelling priest Oni-Hachiman, symbolizing "perseverance and determination." It's a sacred site for praying to pass exams or win competitions.
Sacred Tree Nageia: This thousand-year-old tree is revered as a sacred matchmaking tree where visitors can hang ema votive plaques for blessings.

Takachiho Gorge
